Sheep, goat weigh-in is Saturday

The Greene County 4-H and FFA sheep and goat weigh-in is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, from 7:30 to 10:30 am at the Greene County Fairgrounds in Jefferson. All market lambs and goats to be exhibited at the 2015 Greene County Fair are required to be weighed and tagged during this time, with complete identification forms turned in.

Weather slows planting during week ending April 26

Rain events and cool weather slowed planting in Iowa during the week ending April 26, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service. Statewide there were 2.7 days suitable for fieldwork; west central farmers had even less time in the field, with 2.3 days. Activities for the week included manure hauling, tillage, anhydrous application, and limited planting.

P-C’s Carey wins two events at Hawk Relays

Rocket senior Jake Carey won the 400 meter dash and the 800 m run at the Woodward-Granger Hawk Relays in Woodward Tuesday. He ran the 400 m in :53.95, 1.45 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Carey’s 800 m time was 2:08.60, a full 10 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
