First 2015 Daisy Award celebration planned

Medical center seeking nominations Greene County Medical Center is gearing up to honor its third Daisy Award winner on National Nurses Day, May 6. The medical center held two Daisy Award ceremonies in 2014. First honoring Jenny Taylor, director of clinical services, and then honoring public health nurse Laine Custer. More than 23 nurses have been nominated for the Daisy Award thus far.

Deferred judgment in fatal accident

Larry Lee Warren Varnell, 22, of Churdan was granted a deferred judgment on a charge of providing alcohol to a minor resulting in death, a class D felony. Sentencing was done in April 7 in Boone County district court by the Honorable James B. Malloy. Varnell had changed his plea guilty to the charge in January.

Easter egg hunts held around the county

Easter egg hunts were the order of the day Saturday, with several hunts planned around the county. The Jefferson park and recreation department and the Jefferson Kiwanis hosted their annual hunt Saturday morning on the grounds at the Greene County Community Center. It took the 120 children there less than two minutes to scour the grounds of 1,050 goody-filled plastic eggs.
