Interest in employment at the new casino under construction in Greene County shattered the expectations of company officials. After receiving scores of applications, the management of Wild Rose Jefferson has determined a prioritized schedule for hiring that will run from now until early July, based on the scheduled opening of Aug. 1.
“We feel truly blessed with the reception we received at the job fair,” said Mike Couch, general manager of Wild Rose Jefferson. “Many of the candidates were from Greene County and the surrounding west central region, but we also had people come from out-of-state including California, Colorado, Minnesota and Nebraska.”
Assembling the management team is the immediate hiring priority with emphasis on identifying a marketing manager, information technology manager and catering/event manager, as well as HR recruiter and casino manager. The company has hired a controller, head of security and surveillance manager.
“Once we have key managers aboard, they will hire additional supervisors and staff,” said Nancy Webb, HR manager for the casino. “Our hope is to have the senior management team in place by the middle of May. By the beginning of June, we will start filling positions for restaurant and event managers, player development, the Iowa Store and surveillance.”
Dealers and slot positions will be hired by the beginning of June, while a number of the food and beverage positions will be hired in late June.
“We have received a number of calls and emails from people asking about the status of their applications or if they can still apply,” Webb added. “We are in the process of going through all of the applications and sorting them into areas of operation.
