The Jefferson Matters: Main Street board, Greene County Development Corp executive director Ken Paxton and business owners are gearing up to put their best feet forward Thursday and Saturday for the Empty Building Tour in Jefferson’s historic downtown district.
Six buildings are listed on the tour: 205 N. Wilson, 215 N. Wilson, 100 N. Wilson, 101 N. Chestnut, 200 E. State St and 212 E. State St. Rick Morain (pictured, painting) owns one of the buildings on the tour.
According to Paxton, several developers from outside Greene County and at least two out-of-state developers plan to attend.
Jamie Daubendiek, Jefferson Matters board president, said the tour isn’t just for developers. “Our main goal for this is to get people going through the buildings and to start thinking about the possibilities. You never know who might know someone, who might know someone, who wants to start a business or rehab a building in a small town,” Daubendiek said. “There is so much going on in Greene County, and especially Jefferson, that there has never been a better time.”
He commented about the potential for renovation of upper levels of the historic buildings. “A lot of the upper story living could be really neat with incredible views of our downtown,” he said.
Persons who plan to attend the tour are asked to visit www.jeffersonmatters.org to RSVP. The tours will begin at the Jefferson Matters: Main Street office at 110 W. Lincoln Way. Tour hours are 10 am to 4 pm April 16 and April 18.
