It was one year ago Friday that ground was broken on the $25 million expansion project at Greene County Medical Center.
The new construction, 51,000 square feet on the east end of the campus, will be finished in mid-July. Watch for tours of Greene County Medical Center’s “Big Top” during the Bell Tower Big Top June 13.
When construction is finished, emergency room services, surgery, radiology, laboratory, respiratory therapy and acute patient care will move in. The move will be done without disruption to patient care, according to hospital officials.
The next step will be a lot of renovating in the existing space. The current acute care space on the main level will be transformed to administrative offices, a classroom and conference rooms.
On Level A (where outpatient services are now located), renovations will begin in spaces vacated by the departments moving into the new space. West Central Orthopedics and physical therapy will remain on Level A, and in early July, UnityPoint Clinic will open shop there.
A part of the project surely to be watched with interest by neighbors and passers-by will be the removal of the south wing, where the OB wing and vacated long term care rooms are located. That will make way for the front walkway that leads from the clinics to outpatient services. Reconfiguring the main lobby area will complete the project, anticipated for July 2016.
