Home State Bank marked National Ag Day in March by presenting the first of three $10,000 donations to the Greene County Fair Association for new barns at the Greene County Fairgrounds.
The presentation was done in front of the new swine barn, a 72’ X 135’ four-season barn that replaces a pair of aged 30’ X 120’ barns. Work on the new barn is nearly complete and will be finished well in advance of the 2015 Greene County Fair.
Representing all Greene County 4-H members at the presentation were (front, from left) Grace Curtis, Brandon Hoyle, Grant Robbins, McKinley Robbins, Emma Hoyle, Cody Allen, Hannah Curtis and Lizzie Allen. Also pictured are (back, from left) Danille Curtis and Deb Walker of Home State Bank, Justin Robbins of the Fair Association, Lacie Robbins of the bank, bank president Sid Jones Paul Quam of the Fair Association, 4-H member Joe Towers, Bob Allen of the Fair Association and the bank, and Teresa Hoyle of the bank.
The swine barn is the first barn in a three phase project, with the sheep and cattle barns also targeted for replacement. Each new barn comes at a cost of about $200,000. According to Bob Allen, speaking for the Fair Association, fundraising for the total $600,000 project is about one-third complete. The seed and services auction last September was very successful. The 2015 auction is set for Sept. 8, Allen said.
Home State Bank has pledged $30,000 over the three phases of the project. “Home State Bank has a long standing tradition of supporting 4-H and the Greene County Fair,” Jones said. “We’re happy to make this $30,000 commitment to the project.”
