Scranton does March Madness a little differently

It as March Madness, Scranton-style, last Saturday as the Greene County Women took on the male Highway 30 Drifters in six-on-six basketball at the Scranton Community Center.

Scranton hoops action 2Announcer Doug Gibson did his best to keep the game from getting too serious, but there were random moments of intensity as the women prevailed, 49-42. The Greene County Women included Dani Weber, Tina Kafer, Amanda Sukovaty, Margaret Saddoris, Renae Baugh, Dawn Rudolph, Mary Pedersen and Cathy Krieger. Playing for the Highway 30 Drifters were Zach and Gib Sukovaty, Michael Rossmanith, Tom Horn, Chris Anderson, Mike and Sawyer Gibson, Jerry Boyd and Brian Hinners.

Scranton hoops color guardThe Town and Country Band provided pre-game music and the Glidden-Ralston dance team provided halftime entertainment. A color guard was provided by American Legion Post #11 and VFW Post #9599.

Officials were Jeff Lamoureux, Dave Pedersen and Mike Holden. Scorekeeper/clock duties were covered by Josh Hedges and Ricky Stephenson.

The basketball game was a fundraiser of the Scranton Community Center advisory board. It was preceded by a soup supper hosted by Scranton Betterment in the lunch room.
