In Greene County district court Jody Lynn Schad, 39, of Jefferson was sentenced to five years in prison after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated (OWI)-third offense. All but 30 days was suspended and she was placed on probation for one year. Her driver’s license was revoked for six years. She must follow the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation already done and she must complete a community college drinking drivers school. She was fined $3,125 with a $1,093.75 surcharge. She must pay a $10 drug abuse resistance education (DARE) surcharge and a sheriff’s fee for the jail time she serves. Court costs were $180. (Sentencing: Honorable Adria A. Kester)
Berry Arthur Downs, 20, of Ames was sentenced after changing his plea to guilty to charges of one count each of burglary-third degree, theft-second degree and possession of methamphetamine. On the burglary and theft charges he was sentenced to five years in prison (each) with the terms to be concurrent to each other and to a sentence in a Story County case. He was fined $750 with a $262.50 surcharge on each of those charges; the fines and surcharges were suspended. He must pay a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge on each of those charges. on the methamphetamine charge, Downs was sentenced to two days in jail. He was fined $325 with a $113.75 surcharge. He must also pay a $10 DARE surcharge and a $125 LEI surcharge. Court costs totaled $745.99. Charges of ongoing criminal conduct, theft-third degree (two counts), burglary-third degree (four counts), theft-second degree (three counts), and possession of marijuana were dismissed. Davy Delaney Cooklin, 42, of Paton was sentenced to two days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty March 27 to a charge of OWI-first offense. He may complete an OWI Weekend Offenders program in lieu of the jail time. He must follow the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation already completed and he must finish a community college drinking drivers school. Cooklin was fined $1,250 with a $437.50 surcharge. He must also pay a $10 DARE surcharge and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: Kester)
Sarah Rochelle Carlson, 26, of Early was sentenced to five years in prison after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of OWI-third offense. All but 30 days of the prison term was suspended and she was placed on probation for three years. Her driver’s license was revoked for six years. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense, and she must complete a community college drinking driver’s school. Carlson was fined $3,125 with a $1,093.75 surcharge and a $10 DARE surcharge. She must pay $120 restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees and $180 court costs. (Sentencing: Kester)
Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Mark Lee Jackson, 48, of Des Moines, burglary-third degree (two counts) and possession of burglar’s tools; James John Souder, 48, of Scranton, theft-second degree, manufacture/ deliver/ possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver; and Nicole Marie Souder, 40, of Scranton, theft-second degree, manufacture/ deliver/ possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver. Trial dates were set for May 12 in every case.
Cases were initiated in district court during the week ending March 27 as follows: Lance Michael Ross, 18, of Grand Junction, sex abuse-third degree; Stephen Arthur Molle, 18, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana-first offense; Tamara Kay Arnold, 42, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of firearm by a felon- aiding and abetting (19 counts); Jerry Dean Barker, 51, of Jefferson, possession of firearm by a felon (18 counts), possession/ manufacture with intent to deliver marijuana while in possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of a prescription drug; Eilene Sue Mathers, 42, of Jefferson, public intoxication-second offense; and Matthew Lynn Durbin, 22, of Jefferson, OWI-first offense.
