Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Jefferson police department:
Tuesday, March 31: At 12:45 pm a complainant spoke to an officer regarding a possible theft at a rental property in the 200 block of N. Oak Street. At 4:38 pm a complainant reported her 15-year-old son had been assaulted at Greene County Middle School. An investigation was initiated. At 8:45 pm a complainant reported an assault between students which occurred while they were changing buses at Greene County Elementary School.
Monday, March 30: At 6:18 pm a complainant reported phone harassment at a residence in the 200 block of E. Adams St. At 7:59 pm the Boone County sheriff’s office requested an officer’s assistance in locating three males that had gone to a residence in Boone County and had committed an assault.

Saturday, March 28: At 1:38 pm a complainant reported criminal mischief where two tires had been cut on a vehicle parked overnight in the 100 block of N. Grimmell Road. At 8:16 pm a complainant reported criminal mischief where a tailgate had been dented on a pickup truck in the 200 block of S. Walnut St.
Friday, March 27: At 7:25 pm an officer picked up an abandoned bicycle in the 600 block of S. Chestnut St.
Thursday, March 26: At 4:38 pm a complainant reported trespass at a residence in the 700 block of S. Wilson. At 10:18 pm a traffic stop at W. Russell and S. Elm St resulted in an officer arresting Matthew Lynn Durbin, 22, of Jefferson for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence – first offense*. He was also cited for having a defective muffler and failure to prove insurance against liability.
Wednesday, March 25: At 2:22 pm a complainant reported a garage had been broken into and two batteries taken at a residence in the 600 block of N. Olive St. *** Pursuant to a search warrant executed on March 3 at 203 S. Oak St, an officer has charged Luke Molle, 16, of Jefferson with theft- fifth degree – possession of stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia*. Molle’s charges have been referred to Juvenile Court Services. *** Pursuant to a complaint of trespass on March 18 at a residence in the 600 block of W. State Street, a warrant has been issued charging Kevin Armando Montoya, 18, of Jefferson with trespass (simple misdemeanor)*. *** On March 11 the theft of the contents of a wallet was reported at Greene County Medical Center. As a result, a warrant has been issued charging Bruce Erik Johnson, 53, of Scranton, with theft – fifth degree*. ***On March 23, 2015, an officer took a report of a domestic disturbance taking place where two vehicles were stopped nose to nose in the 300 block of W. Reed St and a male was reported to be yelling and pounding on the windows of one of the vehicles. As a result, a warrant has been issued charging Patrick Michael Kennedy, 30, of Jefferson, with disorderly conduct (simple misdemeanor)*.
Tuesday, March 24: At 7:42 am Alliant Energy personnel reported a light pole had been struck by a dually pickup in the 400 block of Deer Run. Estimated damage was $2,500. At 2:39 pm a complainant reported harassment that occurred at N. Elm and W. Adams St. The complainant and her daughter had been stopped at the stop sign at Adams and Elm St. A semi tractor-trailer was stopped waiting to turn off of Elm onto Adams but couldn’t due to vehicles in the way. As the semi waited for traffic to clear, a truck pulling a trailer attempted to go around the semi and turn onto Adams. The driver couldn’t make the turn due to vehicles being in the way. The driver of the pickup attempted to back up and pull forward several times to make the turn. Eventually, an argument took place between the complainant, her daughter, and the driver of the pickup, at which time the complainant alleges an assault took place. The incident remains under investigation at this time. At 2:40 pm a complainant reported harassment at a residence in the 600 block of N. Wilson. At 3:27 pm an officer was advised of an incomplete 911 call made from the area of S. Grimmell Road and W. Russell St. The officer could not determine the source of the call. At 7:57 pm an officer was advised of an abandoned wireless 911 call that mapped near W. Clark and N. Elm Streets. The origin of the call could not be determined. *** As a result of an investigation initiated on Feb. 22, at Casey’s (N. Elm) regarding a short change transaction, a warrant has been issued charging Gary Paul Kennedy, 62, of Council Bluffs, for with theft-fifth degree (simple misdemeanor)*.
Monday, March 23: At 9:28 am a complainant reported a male pounding on a car in the 300 block of W. Reed Street. The officer determined the incident to be on ongoing domestic dispute between a male and female. Charges are pending. At 12:50 pm staff at Dollar General reported the theft of hair dye by two females who had been in the store. At 3:56 pm a complainant reported the forgery of two vehicle titles in the 700 block of N. Cedar Street. At 6:02 pm a complainant reported trespass where a vacant residence had been entered in the 300 block of S. Oak St.
Sunday, March 22: At 3:14 pm a complainant reported harassment occurring at a residence in the 300 block of N. Wilson. *** As a result of an investigation initiated on March 10, a warrant has been issued charging Lance Michael Ross, 18, of Grand Junction with sex abuse-third degree (Class C felony)*. *** As a result of a search warrant executed on March 3 at a residence in the 200 block of S. Oak St, the following warrants have been issued: Jerry Dean Barker, 51, of Jefferson, dominion / control of firearm / offensive weapon by a felon (18 counts, Class D felony), possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver (Class B felony), unlawful possession of prescription medication – first offense, (serious misdemeanor), and possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor)*; Tamara Kay Arnold, 42, of Jefferson, possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver (Class B felony), dominion / control of firearm / offensive weapon by a felon (19 counts, Class D felony) – aiding & abetting, and possession of drug paraphernalia*; and Stephen Arthur Molle, 19, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana-first offense (serious misdemeanor) and possession of drug paraphernalia*.
Saturday, March 21: At 2 am an officer arrested Eilene Mathers, 42, of Jefferson at the front counter of the LEC and charged her with public intoxication- second offense*. At 8:23 am an officer responded to a business alarm activation; the building was found to be secure. At 11:54 am an officer was advised of a vehicle spinning circles in the gravel lots at the DOT maintenance shed and at the youth baseball complex. The complainant followed the driver to a parking lot in the 100 block of W. Washington Street. With the cooperation of the complainant, Garrett Rysavy was cited for reckless driving. At 4:02 pm a complainant reported a theft from a business in the 1500 block of N. Elm St.

Thursday, March 19: At 8:15 am a complainant reported attempted identity theft from the phone number 876-363-4660. At 3:22 pm an officer investigated a two vehicle collision in the parking lot at Greene County High School. August Halverson was eastbound in the parking lot. Dylan Davis had been southbound to exit the lot when the two vehicles collided. Halverson’s 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck sustained $1,000 in damage and Davis’s 2005 Dodge Neon had $500 in damage. At 3:33 pm a complainant reported a possible scam involving Publisher’s Clearinghouse. A caller told the complainant she had won money and they would be sending someone out to deliver the prize. To claim the prize she first needed to send a claim fee. This is an attempted scam. Publisher’s Clearinghouse does not send anyone out to reward prizes and they do not require anyone to prepay to win a prize. At 7:05 pm an officer investigated a backing collision in the 200 block of S. Chestnut St. Susan Cort backed a 1996 Honda Civic from a parking stall in front of the LEC and struck a parked 2001 Pontiac Grand Am owned by Althea Johns. Both vehicles sustained $500 each in damage. Cort was cited for unsafe backing upon a highway.
Wednesday, March 18: At 7:51 am an officer investigated a motor vehicle collision at W. Lincoln Way and Elm Streets. Katherine Heldt was westbound on Lincoln Way. Pamela Winebrenner was northbound on Elm. Both drivers stopped as posted, but didn’t see the other and they proceeded into the intersection at the same time. Their vehicles collided. Damage to Heldt’s 2014 Toyota Highlander was estimated at $3,000. Damage to Winebrenner’s 2010 Dodge Journey was also estimated at $3,000. No citations were issued. At 11:50 am officers investigated burglaries to several vehicles at the impound lot in the 300 block of E. Head St. At 12:41 pm staff at Kum and Go reported shoplifting. An investigation was initiated. At 4:40 pm a complainant reported trespass at a residence in the 600 block of W. State St. Charges are pending.
Tuesday, March 17: At 1:08 am a complainant reported a male had attempted to assault him and sent his dog chasing after him at E. Reed and N. Locust St. An uncooperative suspect was interviewed regarding what was reported. The investigation is ongoing at this time. At 7:59 am an officer was advised of a business alarm activation. Officers found the building secure. A key holder was contacted. At 6:26 pm a complainant reported an assault at a residence in the 500 block of S. Cedar St. Michael Dennhardt, 46, of Rippey was arrested and charged with assault (serious misdemeanor) and criminal mischief-fourth degree*.
Monday, March 16: At 9:36 am an officer investigated a traffic accident in the 400 block of N. Wilson. Larry Greenough had been westbound on Adams Street in a 1998 Ford F-150 pickup. When Greenough turned northbound on Wilson, a mechanical malfunction in the steering caused Greenough to strike a 2005 Chevrolet pickup owned by Denison Drywall. Damage to Greenough’s vehicle was estimated at $850. The officer estimated $1,850 in damage to the Denison Drywall truck. At 1:04 pm an officer investigated a traffic collision at Elm and W. Lincoln Way. Tamara Mortensen was eastbound on Lincoln Way in a 2014 Kia Sportage and had stopped at the stop sign. Vincent Anderson had been northbound on Elm Street in a 2006 Mercury Montego. Anderson had also stopped at the posted stop sign. Both vehicles proceeded through the intersection at the same time and collided within the intersection. Mortensen received an injury from the air bags deploying and was taken to the Greene County Medical Center by a private vehicle. Anderson complained of a possible neck injury but refused medical treatment. Mortensen was cited for failure to obey a stop sign. Anderson’s Montego suffered $1,850 in damage and Mortenson’s Kia sustained an estimated $3,200 in damage. At 11:15 pm a complainant reported trespass at a residence in the 400 block of W. Russell St.
Sunday, March 15: At 12:34 am an officer assisted an Iowa State Patrolman with a traffic stop and subsequent arrest in the 800 block of E. Lincoln Way. At 2:40 am a complainant reported the power meter and a portion of the meter box had been stolen from the residence at 607 W. State Street. The suspect vehicle was reported to have been an older dark colored Dodge Dakota pickup with a large amount of junk in the bed of the truck. The meter was later recovered on the roof of a neighbor’s storage shed. Investigation into the matter is ongoing at this time.

Thursday, March 12: At 8:14 am a traffic stop at E. Lincoln Way and Cedar St resulted in the arrest of Richard Charles Burkhardt, 45, of Jefferson for driving while barred (aggravated misdemeanor)*. At 2:23 pm a complainant reported a female driving recklessly and screaming obscenities in the 300 block of N. Chestnut Street. At 3:52 pm a caller reported a collision at E. Reed and N. Locust St. Officers determined that the incident was related to the previous call and was a rolling domestic disturbance. Amelia Kennedy was eastbound on Reed St in a 1993 Chevrolet pickup truck. Patrick Kennedy was pursuing Amelia Kennedy in a 1981 Chevrolet Citation. Amelia Kennedy stopped at the intersection at which time Patrick attempted to pull up next to her. Amelia turned left and the two vehicles collided. There was a child in Amelia’s vehicle at the time. Officers arrested Amelia Marie Kennedy, 30, of Jefferson and charged her with disorderly conduct and harassment – third degree (both simple misdemeanors)*. Patrick Michael Kennedy, 30, of Jefferson was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, harassment – third degree and careless driving*. A referral was made to the Department of Human Services as one of the couple’s children was in the vehicle at the time. At 4:39 pm a complainant reported criminal mischief in the 600 block of N. Locust St where siding on a garage had been damaged by being shot with a BB gun. The officer determined a neighboring boy had been shooting targets in his back yard and had shot the siding. The boy was charged with criminal mischief and referred to Juvenile Court Services. At 6 pm an officer took a report of ongoing harassment and bullying of a teenage male in the 800 block of W. Monroe Street. At 6:35 pm an officer was advised of a male consuming alcoholic beverages at Washington Park. The officer cited Rheise Presnall for public consumption*. At 10:05 pm a complainant reported a burglary where a door had been kicked open at a residence in the 300 block of W. Reed St. *** Cody William Carpenter, 23, of Jefferson has been cited for violation – financial liability – accident related after an insurance card presented following a March 3 collision at N. Chestnut and E. Washington St proved not to be valid.
Wednesday, March 11: At 8:12 am an officer investigated a two vehicle collision that occurred in a shared driveway at 207 N. Locust Street. Everett Beebe was backing a 2001 Ford F-150 pickup in the drive and struck a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero owned by Michael Schlicht. Each vehicle sustained $1,000. in damage. No citation was issued as most traffic offenses do not apply outside the roadway right of way. At 11:41 am an officer was advised of the theft of a wallet from the Greene County Medical Center. The wallet had been found at Oly’s Corner. Cash was missing from the wallet. Two suspects were identified. The investigation is ongoing at this time. At 11:39 am a complainant reported criminal mischief to a pickup mirror at a residence in the 200 block of S. Oak St. At 12:35 pm a complainant reported a runaway 13-year-old from a residence in the 100 block of S. Maple St. The Greene County sheriff’s office assisted in the search for the female. At 6:52 pm a complainant reported an 18-year-old male had been assaulted at a residence in the 400 block of W. Russell St. The officer spoke to the male regarding the incident. Lance Ross, 18, was charged again for trespass-simple* as he had previously been advised he was not to return to that residence. Additional charges are pending for the homeowner who assaulted Ross.
Tuesday, March 10: At 3:49 pm officers investigated a report of trespass at a city owned property at 407 W. Lincoln Way. At 3:58 pm a complainant reported the theft of two hydraulic cylinders from a residence in the 400 block of E. McKinley St. *** As a result of a complaint of someone throwing rocks at windows on a residence in the 400 block of W. Russell St during the early morning hours the previous day, an officer has charged Lance Ross, 18, of Grand Junction and Kevin Montoya, 18, of Jefferson with trespass (simple misdemeanor)*. The two had previously been told not to return to that property.
Monday, March 9: At 1:54 am a complainant reported hearing someone throwing rocks at windows of her residence in the 400 block of W. Russell St. The officer identified two males that were responsible for the complaint. Charges are pending at this time. At 12:34 pm staff at Casey’s (N. Elm) requested an officer for suspicious activity involving a credit card. At 1:54 pm a complainant reported the theft of decorations from a plot at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. At 9:38 pm an officer was requested to attempt to locate a vehicle in the 100 block of N. Olive St which was subject to a complaint in the county.
Sunday, March 8: At 11:38 am An officer investigated a vehicle-pedestrian accident in the 500 block of W. Sunset Road. Alice Shriver was westbound on Sunset Road. Dorothy Van Horn was walking eastbound on the north side of the roadway. Shriver struck Van Horn’s walker, which struck her in the leg. Van Horn was transported to the Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Emergency Medical Services. Shriver’s 2009 Ford Focus sustained an estimated $500 in damage. *** Pursuant to a complaint filed on March 4 at a residence in the 300 block of N. Chestnut St, an officer has charged Amelia Kennedy with trespass-simple*. *** Pursuant to a report of a home being entered, a checkbook, keys and a vehicle stolen in the 300 block of E. Harrison St on March 3, an officer has charged Andrew Lee Jensen, 32, of Jefferson with theft – first degree (class C felony), and burglary and criminal mischief-second degree (both class D felonies)*.
Saturday, March 7: At 9:13 am staff at Shopko reported finding a possible counterfeit $10 bill. At 3:40 pm an officer investigated a traffic collision at S. Locust and E. Park Streets. Jordan Aubrey was southbound on Locust St driving a 2008 Toyota Corolla. Aubrey attempted to turn westbound on Park Street and in doing so went up into the yard at 406 E. Park Street and struck a black metal fence. Damage to the fence was estimated at $1,200 and damage to the vehicle was estimated at $3,000. At 4:10 pm a complainant reported a male shooting targets behind 102 S. Grimmell Road. The male was warned as it is illegal to discharge a BB gun within the city limits.
Friday, March 6: An officer was advised that a sheriff’s deputy had located the pickup reported stolen near Wilson and Central Ave. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle at which time the driver attempted to elude the deputy. An officer responded to the area and as the officer travelled north up Cedar Street near Perry St, the driver of the stolen truck attempted to hit the officer head on in his lane of travel. The officer left the roadway to avoid a collision. The suspect vehicle lost control, went up over the southwest corner of McKinley and Cedar St, struck a fire hydrant shearing it off and then a tree. Andrew Jensen, 32, of Jefferson, was arrested and charged by the JPD with theft-first degree (class C felony)*. Additional charges regarding the pursuit were filed by the Sheriff’s Office. At 7:41 am an officer investigated a traffic collision in the 200 block of S. Elm St. A Greene County School District school bus had been stopped in the circle drive on the west side of the Greene County Middle School. The driver, Tom Winger, began to turn to the west and was going to turn southbound on Elm St. The bus struck a parked 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue, (owned by Kathryn Borkowksi) and a parked 2009 Chrysler Town and Country van, (owned by Eric Challen), which were parked in the north end of the circle drive. The minivan was pushed out into the northbound lanes of Elm Street where the van and bus came to rest. There were students on the bus at the time of the collision and no injuries were reported. The police department was assisted by the Greene County sheriff’s office and the Jefferson fire department at the scene of the collision. The incident remains under investigation at this time. At 12:15 pm officers assisted the sheriff’s office with a pursuit and subsequent one vehicle accident on Highway 30 west of County Road P-14 west of Jefferson.
Thursday, March 5: At 7:47 am an officer observed a passenger in a vehicle in which he knew to have an active warrant. A traffic stop in the 200 block of W. Vest St resulted in the arrest of Lance Ross, 18, of Grand Junction on an outstanding warrant for theft-fifth degree. At 9:49 am an officer investigated a motor vehicle collision in the Medicap parking lot. Larry Blackburn was driving a 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck when he struck a parked 2001 Ford Taurus owned by the pharmacy. There was $200 damage to the Blackburn vehicle and $1,500 in damage to the Taurus. At 10:57 pm a complainant reported a stolen 2013 Chevrolet dually pickup from a residence in the 200 block of N. Olive St. The vehicle had been unlocked and left running in the driveway.
Wednesday, March 4: At 2:36 pm a complainant reported an assault at a residence in the 300 block of N. Chestnut St. Charges are pending at this time. At 3:21 pm staff at Greene County Medical Center reported a vehicle parked in a handicapped spot which was not displaying a handicap placard. At 3:49 pm a complainant reported harassment through text messaging from a female in the 400 block of E. Washington St. At 7:59 pm a complainant reported a domestic assault at a residence in the 300 block of E. Central Ave. The officer arrested Jeffrey William Fortier, 52, of Jefferson and charged him with domestic abuse assault (simple misdemeanor)*. At 8:26 pm a complainant reported a forged check had been passed at Dollar General. The incident remains under investigation.
Tuesday, March 3: At 8:03 am an officer investigated a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of N. Chestnut and E. Washington Streets. Cody Carpenter was northbound on Chestnut driving a 2000 Buick Century. Tricia Monthei was westbound on Washington driving a 2000 Buick Park Avenue. Carpenter was unable to stop at the posted stop sign at the intersection due to slick road conditions and struck Monthei’s vehicle. Carpenter was cited for driving while license suspended and failure to obey a stop sign. Damage to Carpenter’s vehicle was estimated at $1,500. Damage to Monthei’s vehicle was estimated at $3,000. At 9:57 am a complainant reported the theft of a 2012 Ford Fusion, a set of car keys and a check book from a residence in the 300 block of E. Harrison St. The vehicle was recovered later in the day at a residence in the 1500 block of Q Ave. The investigation into the incident is ongoing at this time. At 10:52 am an officer was advised of a motor vehicle collision at W. Washington and N. Vine Streets. The investigation was handled by the Greene County sheriff’s office. At 10:53 am officers executed a search warrant at 203 S. Oak Street. Suspected marijuana, drug paraphernalia, guns and other items were seized as a result of the warrant. Jerry Dean Barker, 51, of Jefferson was arrested and charged with dominion / control of a firearm/offensive weapon by a felon (class D felony)*. The police department was assisted by a Greene County Sheriff’s deputy and an officer from the Iowa State Patrol. Additional charges are pending upon completion of the investigation. At 6:25 pm a complainant reported harassment by a female at a residence in the 300 block of N. Chestnut St. At 9:58 pm a complainant reported a male in a dark colored SUV had been following him on Highway 30 and after he had pulled into the parking lot at Sparky’s One Stop, the male had exposed himself to him and then left the area. Officers attempted to locate the vehicle but were unable to. Video footage was obtained regarding the incident. Investigation into the matter continues at this time.
Monday, March 2: At 9:05 am staff at Napa Auto Parts reported an attempted theft of a vehicle over the weekend.
Sunday, March 1: At 1:23 am a caller requested an officer at a residence in the 700 block of Pinet Place for a male that had fallen and hurt his leg. An ambulance was summoned for the male. The officer arrested the caller, Michele Harris, 20, of Jefferson, and charged her with possession of an alcoholic beverage under age 21*. At 12:03 pm a complainant reported a domestic disturbance at a residence in the 500 block of W. State St. An officer arrested Charles Noah Thompson, 73, and charged him with domestic abuse assault (serious misdemeanor) and obstruction of emergency communication (simple misdemeanor)*.
