More than $1 million will be spent on patching two Greene County roads this summer. The Greene County supervisors on Monday signed the final plans for the project, which is funded with farm to market road funds, not county tax funds.
The project includes 11 miles of County Road E-26, which runs through Dana. E-26 is the Iowa Department of Transportation’s planned detour route while the new Highway 30 overpass on the east side of Grand Junction is built in 2017 or 2018. Greene County engineer Wade Weiss explained that the DOT is required to maintain detour routes. With the road newly patched, it will be easier to determine what damage is done during the detour so the DOT can repair it.
Eighteen miles of County Road P-14, from one mile north of the Guthrie County line to Churdan will also be patched. Weiss said that portions of that road need only minimal patching, while some portions need extensive work. He said that the planning process makes it easier to address the entire stretch rather than only parts.
The project will be contracted out, with bids handled by the DOT. The work will be done during the summer construction season.
Also on Monday, prior to the agenda items for the meeting, board chair John Muir (left) presented county conservation director Dan Towers with a certificate recognizing his 30 years of service to Greene County.
