The Jefferson park and recreation department ushered in spring with a trio of favorite activities.
Friday night more than 100 boys and their moms attended the Mother-Son Date Night with pizza, bingo, bags and games.
NCAA basketball was on the television in the lobby at the Community Center, but the couples paid little attention as they enjoyed their time together.
Saturday morning young wranglers had a rowdy rodeo at the Community Center. They each decorated their own saddle blanket to put on stick horses already created by JPRD director Vicky Lautner. (At least two of the horses were named Elsa before the rodeo was over.)
The cowgirls and cowboys had plenty of time to ride, although the frisky calves (black and white balloons) created some challenges when they escaped their corral.
In the afternoon, nearly 100 persons rode buses to the Shrine Circus at the State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. Shriners provided free tickets for the bus riders.
