February was 10 degrees colder and much snowier than a typical February in Jefferson, according to data from volunteer weather observer John Beltz.
The average high temperature for the month was 24 degrees, compared to the normal average high of 34 degrees. High temperature for February was 42 degrees on Feb. 8. That was the only day the high was in the 40s. The high was above freezing on nine days. The lowest high temperature for the month was 7 degrees on Feb. 27.
The average low temperatue3.5 degrees, compared to 13.7 for a normal February. The low temperature for the month was -15 degrees on Feb. 8. The low temperature was at or below 0 degrees on 15 days. The warmest low temperature was 30 degrees on Feb. 9.
Snowfall totaled 11.6 inches, compared to 6.5 inches as normal. Most of the snow – 9.5 inches of it – fell on Feb. 1-2. On Feb. 26, Jefferson received 1.7 inches of snow. Beltz noted there was snow on the ground for all 28 days in February. Precipitation for the month totaled 1.14 inches, compared to the normal .96 inch.
The record high temperature in Jefferson for February is 76 degrees on Feb. 24, 1930. The record low temperature is -27 degrees on Feb. 2, 1996.
