The Jefferson city council at its regular meeting Feb. 24 approved the low bid of Scharnweber Inc of Toledo to complete the water and sanitary sewer extension to the Wild Rose Jefferson site.
According to city engineer John Milligan, five bids were submitted ranging in cost from
$697,789 to more than $1 million. The pre-bid estimate for the project was $800,000.
Scharnweber’s was the low bid. Milligan told the council he has no previous experience with the company, but after checking references and talking with company owner Mike
Graff, he was confident in recommending that company’s bid be accepted. “I don’t have adequate reason not to award the contract to them,” Milligan said.
A completion date of June 15 was included in the contract, with $500 per day liquidated damages should the project not be finished on time. Opening of Wild Rose Jefferson and Cobblestone Hotel and Suites is contingent on completion of the sewer project.
The city will bear the cost of the project, planning to recoup the money through increased property taxes paid by the casino.
