Paton-Churdan speech team competed at the Iowa High School Speech Association large group state contest at Valley High School in West Des Moines on Feb. 7. They made several revisions to their original film prior to contest, taking into consideration their district judge’s suggestions. Their silent film, The Illusion, was given three “1” ratings. The students participating in the event include seniors Garion Consier, Robin Consier, Jacob Bundt, and Nohea Missweit; sophomores Autumn Johnston and Kristen Lefebvre; and freshman Devin Burgart.
Many of these same students are busy preparing for the individual events portion of IHSSA contests. Individual contest will be at Dowling Catholic in Des Moines Feb. 28. Paton-Churdan is taking eight events. The students include Garion Consier (musical theatre), Bundt (spontaneous speaking), Robin Consier (public address), senior Bayllie Flynn (prose), junior Samantha Joy (literary program); Johnston (musical theatre and storytelling) and Burgart (poetry).
