The Greene County Schools’ Rippey gym was officially named the William J. and Maybelle I. Wisecup Memorial Gymnasium during the intermission between a JV and varsity basketball games in the gym Monday evening. Greene County hosted Panorama for the games.
Greene County school superintendent Tim Christensen made brief comments and showed a bronze plaque that will be hung in the entryway to the gym. He noted that it was money from the estate of the Wisecups given to the East Greene school district that funded the renovations needed for the gym to be a free-standing structure.
There is still exterior work needed on the west side of the gym, but the interior is well suited to middle school and sub-varsity games. The Greene County school board at its Feb. 18 meeting will hold a public hearing on the sale of the gym and school property to the city of Rippey for a nominal price. The school will retain exclusive rights to use the building for as long as it wishes; the gym will then revert to the city of Rippey.
