RSVP 55+ netted 1,232 items, including 795 pairs of socks and 313 pairs of underwear in its annual Lots of Socks collection. Also collected were camisoles, diapers and pull-ups.
The socks were sorted by (from left) RSVP volunteers Carol Zwicky, Anne Butler and Barb Potkonak. The socks will be distributed through New Opportunities’ Family Development Center in Jefferson.
The camisoles will be available to needy students at Greene County High School, while the diapers and pull-ups will be sent to the Greene County Early Learning Center to fill in when supplies sent by parents run short.
Items were donated in drop boxes placed by RSVP 55+ at several locations in Jefferson and in Grand Junction, Churdan, Paton and Rippey. Staff at Greene County Medical Center donated a total of 408 items, and members of Trinity Lutheran Church donated 222 items.
The National Honor Society hosted a middle school dance with an admission charge to benefit Lots of Socks. The $107 raised was used to purchase additional diapers.
