Wonderful desserts and music performed by Greene County High School musicians are in store for all who attend the annual Dessert Concert Monday, Dec. 15, in the middle school gymnasium. Doors will open at 6:45 pm, with the music starting at 7:30. Those who arrive early will have their first choice of dessert and will have plenty of time to place bids in a silent auction hosted by music parents.
The concert band, a percussion ensemble, the jazz band, the Jazzatonics jazz choir and the concert choir will perform. The choir will follow tradition by inviting choir alumni to join in singing the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s “Messiah.”
The audience also follows a tradition by standing during the “Hallelujah Chorus.” More than 200 years ago, King George II stood for the chorus during the oratorio’s first London performance. If the king stands, everyone stands, and so the tradition started. From London to Jefferson, Iowa….. why not?
Tickets are available from any high school music student, at The Printer’s Box and the high school office, or at the door. All proceeds benefit the high school music department.
