The Greene County Rams dominated in both the girls’ game and the boys’ game in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference basketball against the CMB Raiders in Baxter Friday night.
The girls won 70-38. The Rams scored the first eight points of the game but the Raiders managed to tie the score at 13 at the end of the first quarter. The Rams scored 12 unanswered points to finish the half and the halftime score was 34-18. They continued scoring in the top of the third quarter. The score was 39-18 before the Raiders scored again. Score at the end of the third quarter was 47-32, and the Rams stretched the lead with a 16-point run late in the fourth quarter for the final 70-38 tally.
Senior Stacy Mears led in scoring with 21 points, including two 3-point shots. Kayla Mobley was right behind her with 20 points and one 3-point shot. The seniors on the team all scored, with Marissa Promes at 12 points, Jolee Wessling at seven, Hannah Onken at five points and Tressar Rasmussen at three points. Sophomore Kenna Marquardt scored two points.
The Rams shot at 80 percent at the free throw line, making 16 of 20 shots.
The Rams averaged 44 points in the first two games of the season. They’re now 2-1 overall and in the HOIAC. The Raiders shot more than their average of 33 points. They fell to 0-3 overall.
The boys team was led by sophomore Trey Tucker’s 28 points, 20 of which came in the first half. Tucker had three 3-point shots and eight 2-point shots. He was three of five in shooting free throws.
Senior Landon Braun scored eight points, with six of those coming from 3-point shots in the first quarter. Sophomore Reid Lamoureux had the biggest night of his young varsity career with eight points. Other scorers were Riah Nelsen and Max Neese with with six points each, Tyler Beger with five points, Matt Gordon with three, Chase Stoline with two and Mitchell Gorsuch with one point. A total of 13 Rams had playing time,.
From the free throw line the Rams made 11 of 16 shots for 69 percent.
The Ram boys are 2-0 on the season and in the HOIAC.
