The Greene County Ram basketball teams won a pair of Heart of Iowa Activities Conference games in Colfax Tuesday evening. The girls won 63-21 and the boys won 75-60 over the struggling Colfax-Mingo Tigerhawks.
The Rams dominated the entire game. They were ahead 28-9 after the first quarter and 45-15 at halftime. The continuous clock rule, which goes into effect when the score difference is 35 points or more, was in play for most of the second half.
Seniors were the lead scorers, with Jolee Wessling at 15, Stacy Mears at 14, and Kayla Mobley and Marissa Promes both at 12 points.
“I was really proud of the girls for playing at a high level for the whole game,” coach Chad Morton said. “I thought we did a better job of taking care of the ball. We had well rounded scoring. Jolee shot the ball as good as I have ever seen her shoot.”
The girls are now at 1-1 overall and in the HOIAC.
The boys’ game was tight for the first half. The Rams led 9-2 before the Tigerhawks put up 11 points to take a 13-11 lead. At the end of the first quarter the Rams led 21-15. They were up by eight points in the second half but C-M started hitting the basket again and tied the score at 32-32 late in the first half. Halftime score was 37-33.
