Greene County High School was represented at the national FFA convention in Louisville, KY, in late October by eight students and their advisor Cortney Schmidt. The group traveled by charter bus and picked up other FFA members en route. The group also stopped and toured the Monsanto Learning Center in Huxley and Kinze Manufacturing just outside of Williamsburg, where they learned about agricultural opportunities in Iowa.
After arriving in Louisville, students listened to motivational and agricultural speakers such as Jane Herlong (agricultural comedian), Nick Vujicic (motivational speaker), and Jeff Simmons (president of Elanco).
Students attended leadership workshops, visited the expo center, and viewed national career development events. Greene County FFA members also had the opportunity to tour Becks Hybrid Seeds, Churchill Downs, zipline through underground caverns, and attend a rodeo and concert.
The trip was a great experience and taught Greene County FFA members about leadership, agricultural innovations, and what other opportunities there are in FFA.
