Dear Editor,
On behalf of the veterans of Greene County, I wish to publicly thank all who are responsible for the courtesies extended to us during this year’s Veterans Day activities. The delicious hot breakfast in the high school Ram Restaurant followed by a rousing vocal and instrumental concert in the packed high school auditorium were overwhelming to many of us. The touching student produced videos and poignant keynote remarks of Elvin Thompson only reinforced the memory of the special day.
To top it all off, the Sierra Community Theatre board announced all veterans were invited to a free showing of the first run World War II movie “Fury” that evening. It made for a jam packed day for all veteran participants.
No local vet could participate in all that and not feel appreciated for his or her service by the fine citizens of Greene County. It only reinforces why Greene County was selected the first county in Iowa to be selected a “Home Base Iowa” community based on their support of veterans and their families.
Thank you all for remembering and making our day special!
