Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:
Friday, Oct. 31: At 6:46 pm, a deputy was dispatched to a car-deer accident that was reported on Highway 25 near 340th St in Willow Township. Shelly Kay Strahl, 52, of Glidden was northbound on Highway 25 when a deer ran onto the roadway and struck the Strahl vehicle, breaking the front windshield and causing severe damage to the front of the car. Strahl was not injured but her 1998 Chevy Lumina was estimated to be a total loss. At 7:45 pm a deputy was not able to locate a reported deer lying along the roadway near P Ave on County Road E-53 (235th St) east of Jefferson. At 8:25 pm a deputy was dispatched to a car-deer accident on Highway 30 near the Boone and Greene County line. Ashley Lynn Sippel, 22, of Ames was westbound when a deer crossed the roadway and her car stuck the deer. Ashely Sippel was not injured but her 2013 Nissan Sentra sustained an estimated $4000 in damages. The car was towed from the scene.
Thursday, Oct. 30: At 3:23 pm a deputy spoke with the owner of a building on Main Street in Grand Junction that had the lock pried from the door. The owner determined that nothing was taken from the building.
Wednesday, Oct. 29: At 9:42 am a deputy investigated a harassment concern that was initiated by a phone call to a court ordered protected individual. At 8:13 pm a deputy was northbound on Highway 4 south of Jefferson, when a deer ran onto the roadway and was struck by the patrol vehicle. Damage to the front bumper of the patrol vehicle was estimated to be $1500.
Tuesday, Oct. 28: At 12:11 pm several deputies responded to the 900 block of Cedar Street in Scranton to help locate a distraught female. The female was found to be safe. At 2:20 pm a deputy was dispatched to the Peoples Trust & Savings Bank in Rippey to investigate a check fraud case. At 8:42 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 800 block of High Street in Scranton to help find a 14-year0old male who had run away from home after a verbal altercation with his mother. The juvenile was later found sleeping in the garage at his home.
Monday, Oct. 27: At 7:40 am a deputy was dispatched to the 2400 block of 210th St in Junction Township to investigate the theft of a laptop computer and tools from a vehicle. At 8:13 am a deputy investigated criminal mischief to four windows at the Grand Junction city shed. It appears that several of the windows were shot with a BB or pellet gun. At 4:56 pm a deputy responded to the 2300 block of 210th St in Junction Township to recover a stolen 4-wheel ATV. At 8:16 pm a deputy was dispatched to investigate a reported burglary in the 500 block of E. Main Street in Grand Junction.
Sunday, Oct. 26: At 1:58 am a deputy was dispatched to a verbal domestic altercation in the 2200 block of 240th St in Junction Township. After an investigation by the deputy, Amanda Pamela Collogan, 29, was arrested for operation of a motor vehicle while intoxicated (OWI)- first offense*. At 2:50 am the chief deputy sheriff, the sheriff, and two patrol vehicles, including the K-9 unit from the Boone County sheriff’s office and the Grand Junction fire and rescue all responded for the report of a car that had driven off the roadway and into a farm field on County Road E-53 near T Ave west of Grand Junction. The driver was found by a Boone County deputy walking on E-53 Street toward Grand Junction. After a K-9 search of the vehicle and speaking with the driver, the Greene County chief deputy sheriff arrested Tyler Anthony Kokenge, 33, of Grand Junction for OWI, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, a class D felony* . At 9:50 am a deputy was dispatched to the 900 block of Stanton St in Scranton to investigate damage to a vehicle. It was not determined when the $2500 in damage occurred to the car.
Saturday, Oct. 25: At 1:43 am a deputy investigated criminal mischief to six windows at an abandoned residence on the corner of 13th and Herron St in Grand Junction. It was reported that five or six youth were using baseball bats to break the windows. At 9:37 am, a deputy was dispatched for the report of a burglary and criminal mischief to a machine shed in the 2300 block of 185th St in Junction Township. It was undetermined if anything was taken from the shed and damage to the door was estimated to be $75. At 6:20 pm a deputy assisted the Webster County sheriff’s office with a motorcycle accident that occurred in Webster County and the female driver was taken to the Greene County Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. At 11:23 pm, a deputy was advised by the manager of the bar at 209 Main in Paton of a party bus that stopped at the restaurant and they had refused to serve under age passengers on the bus.
Friday, Oct. 24: At 9:13 am a deputy was advised by a resident in the 700 block of J Ave in Bristol Township of hearing gun shots on his property. The deputy was not able to locate the source of the gun shots. At 3:42 pm a deputy spoke with a resident in the 600 block of Dudley Street in Churdan about a no burn ordinance within the city limits. At 4:21 pm a deputy investigated the report of a male being struck intentionally by the mirror of a pickup truck as he was walking near 15th and Main St in Grand Junction. The altercation is under investigation by the sheriff’s office at this time. At 6:29 pm a deputy was not able to locate a reported careless driver westbound on Highway 30 from Grand Junction. At 7:54 pm a deputy was asked to assist the Perry police department with locating a Rippey resident in the 300 block of 3rd St. She was later spoken to by phone. At 9:10 pm a deputy was not able to locate a reported car driving in excess of 80 MPH on Highway 30 near Rueter’s Red Power in Grand Junction.
Thursday, Oct. 23: At 9:15 am a deputy was dispatched to a car-deer accident on County Road E-53 (235th St) at Parkland Ave east of Jefferson. A Greene County Schools van was eastbound when a deer ran into the driver’s side of the vehicle. Three youth were on the van at the time but were not injured and were transported to the Grand Junction Intermediate School by another bus. The driver, Charles Read Vandever, 72, of Grand Junction was not injured. Damage to the van was estimated to be $1500. At 11:52 am a deputy was advised of a littering concern in the 1300 block of 270th St in Grant Township. At 3:51 pm, members of the Greene County sheriff’s office assisted the Jefferson police department in locating a middle school youth that was to stay in Jefferson and not ride the bus home. The youth was located at her home after forgetting her morning instructions and rode the bus to Rippey.
Wednesday, Oct. 22: At 4 am a deputy assisted with traffic control at the intersection of Highway 30 and 144 while a disabled semi was removed from the roadway. At 9:29 am a deputy was dispatched for the report of a motorcycle in the ditch at the intersection of 237th Street and K Ave in Jackson Township. The owner was identified and located later in the day. The accident is under investigation at this time. At 9:51 am a deputy investigated the reported theft of apples from a tree in the 400 block of Head St in Churdan. At 11:22 am the Greene County sheriff’s office, Paton fire department and Grand Junction fire and rescue all responded to a field fire reported to be on 110th St between V and X Ave in Paton Township. The fire in a corn stalk field that was being combined was quickly extinguished with no damage to the equipment. At 1:56 pm the chief deputy sheriff investigating the theft of several bicycles from a residence in the 600 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction.
Tuesday, Oct. 22: At 11:07 am, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Grand Junction fire and rescue, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Department of Transportation and the Greene County EMS all responded to a two vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 30 near X Ave between Grand Junction and Beaver. Shannon Lee Poole, 26, of Boone was westbound on Highway 30 driving a 1984 Oldsmobile Delta Royal when for an unknown reason she crossed over the center line and struck the rear trailer wheels of an eastbound semi-tractor trailer owned by Greene County Redi-Mix Inc. of Jefferson. The driver of the semi, Kenneth Dean Ricke, 55, of Arcadia, Iowa, was not injured. Poole was pronounced dead at the scene and a passenger in her vehicle, Shayne David Swett 23, of Ames, Iowa, was transported to the Greene County Medical Center with major injuries. Both lanes of Highway 30 were closed for approximately four hours. The accident was investigated and is still under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. At 4:13 pm, a deputy assisted with traffic control while the semi from the earlier accident on Highway 30 was removed from the shoulder of the roadway to a farm field near the accident site. At 4:31 pm, a deputy was asked to try and locate a vehicle between Rippey and Grand Junction with a driver that was not valid to drive. The vehicle was not located at that time. At 10:54 pm, a deputy was asked to meet a Calhoun County deputy at the county line to take custody of a prisoner to be transported the Greene County Law Enforcement Center.
Monday, Oct. 20: At 8:39 am a deputy investigated criminal mischief to several windows at the Grand Junction city shed. Two windows were reported to have been broken out. At 2:07 pm a deputy was advised of two abandoned bicycles that were found in the 600 block of Kelly Street East in Grand Junction. The bikes were transported to the impound lot in Jefferson.
Sunday, Oct. 19: At 3 pm the Boone County sheriff’s office advised the Greene County Sheriff’s Office of the theft of several gravity flow wagons from a farm building site in Boone County. At 5:01 pm a deputy was dispatched to a reported hit and run accident that occurred on X Ave at 210th St in Junction Township. A 2008 Cadillac being driven by Chad Michael Klass, 34, of Fort Dodge was northbound on X Ave and was struck at the intersection by a blue semi tractor-trailer that was eastbound on 210th Street. The semi was not located at that time. Klass was not injured and his vehicle sustained minor damage to the front passenger side. The accident is still under investigation.

Friday, Oct. 17: At 3:40 am, a deputy assisted the Carroll County sheriff’s office with trying to locating a vehicle that was involved in a single vehicle accident in Carroll County. At 7:28 am a deputy investigated the reported theft of tools from a rural residence in the 200 block of M Ave in Highland Township. At 10:02 am a deputy, the sheriff and the Churdan Fire and Rescue responded to a hog confinement site in the 600 block of 145th St in Cedar Township for the report of an animal byproducts truck driver that had fallen from the back of his rendering truck while attempting to load hog carcasses. Dan M. Millard, 55, of Carroll sustained extensive injury to his knee and was transported to the Greene County Medical Center for further treatment. At 11:12 am a deputy was dispatched to investigate the reported theft of gas from a vehicle in the 700 block of Madison St in Scranton. At 7:21 pm a deputy was dispatched to a two vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 144 and County Road E-53 (230th St) at Grand Junction. Harold Arthur Rickey, 88, of Ogden was eastbound on E-53. He stopped at the stop sign and then attempted to turn on to E-53 but struck a vehicle driven by Justin Davila, 23, of Denison. Neither driver was injured. Rickey was cited for failure to obey a stop sign. Damage to Rickey’s 2012 Chevrolet Impala and to Davila’s 2003 Volkswagen was estimated at less than $2,000.
Thursday, Oct. 16: At 6:02 pm a deputy was dispatched to Churdan to investigate the report of a burning smell permeating through town. The source of the smell could not be located.
Wednesday, Oct. 15: At 6:48 am a deputy was dispatched to a reported car-deer accident on Highway 30 west of County Road P-33(S Ave) on the West Buttrick Creek bridge west of Grand Junction. Angelica Ester Brager, 27, of Grand Junction was westbound when she struck a deer carcass in her lane of the bridge, causing her to veer into the bridge railing. Brager was not injured. Damage to her 2005 Volkswagen Jetta was estimated at $5,000.

Monday, Oct. 13: At 11:42 am a deputy investigated the reported theft of scrap metal from a vacant lot on 7th St in Grand Junction.
Sunday, Oct. 12: At 7:36 pm a deputy was dispatched to R Ave and 195th St in Hardin Township for a reported bean table on a trailer that had come unhooked from a pickup and entered the ditch. Dennis Ostrander of rural Jefferson was transporting the bean head when the hitch pin dislodged causing the trailer with bean head to enter the ditch and overturn. The extent of the damage is not known at this time. At 7:55 pm a deputy provided traffic control for an occupied vehicle that was experiencing mechanical difficulties at D Ave and County Road E-63 in Willow Township. The vehicle was moved off the roadway with plans to move it the next day. At 8:27 pm a deputy was dispatched to Orchard Ave just south of County Road E-26 (170th St) in Hardin Township for a grain truck that had entered the ditch. A grain truck owned by David Ausberger of Jefferson and being driven by Randy Lee Ray, 55, of Bouton was southbound on Orchard Ave and entered the ditch. The truck was hauling soybeans that will be transferred to another truck on Monday. Ray was issued a citation for failure to maintain control. No damage estimate was determined at this time.
Saturday, Oct. 11: At 1:13 pm, a deputy was dispatched to a single vehicle accident that occurred in the 1600 block of Highway 25 south of Scranton. Robert Benjamin Bills, 30,of rural Scranton was hauling round hay bales on a bale trailer when Bills stated that the front tire of his vehicle blew and the pickup truck went into the ditch striking a power pole. Several lines owned by both ITC and Alliant Energy were damaged as well as the pole. Bills’ 2000 Ford F250 pickup truck was reported to be a total loss. The bale trailer owned by Kelly Rice sustained major damage. Damage was estimated to be $10,000 to the power lines and pole. At 6:24 pm a deputy was advised of the reported theft of a yellow Havoc go-cart and tools from a residence in the 700 block of Sand St in Churdan. The theft is under investigation at this time.
Friday, Oct. 10: At 6:41 am a deputy was dispatched to a car-deer accident that occurred on Neola Avenue (Highway 4) and 340th St, just into Greene County in Franklin Township. Jodi Lyn Frederick, 40, of rural Bagley was southbound on Highway 4 when a deer ran from the ditch and was struck. Frederick was not injured. Damage to her 2010 Buick Enclave was estimated at $5,500. At 4:44 pm, a deputy was advised of and is investigating a reported assault that occurred on the Coon Rapids- Bayard school bus involving a 13-yearoold male and other youth.

Wednesday, Oct. 8: At 4:09 pm a deputy was dispatched for a two vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Highway 4 and 140th St (the Highway 4 curve east of Churdan). Carol Elaine Creger, 71, of rural Jefferson was southbound on N Ave toward Jefferson. Robert Sterling Larsen, 47, of Lake City was northbound, making the curve to the west. Creger pulled away from the stop sign and the vehicles collided. No injuries were reported; both Creger’s 2000 Ford Windstar LX and Larsen’s 1995 Plymouth Grand Voyager received little damage and were drivable from the scene. Creger was issued citations for failure to yield upon entering a through highway and failure to prove security against liability.
Tuesday, Oct. 7: At 5:04 am, a deputy was dispatched to the report of two horses on the roadway in the 1700 block of County Road E-53 (235th St) east of Jefferson. The owner of the horses was advised and came to the location. At 12:14 pm a deputy spoke with a Scranton resident in the 700 block of State St about the possibility of identity theft. At 5:40 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 500 block of South Wise St in Paton to investigate the report of criminal mischief to a yard. At 7:49 pm a deputy was dispatched to investigate a reported assault involving neighbors in the 700 block of Lincoln St in Scranton.
Monday, Oct. 6: At 9:50 am a deputy investigated the reported theft of electricity from a business to a residential home in Rippey. The theft is under investigation pending the wishes of the business. At 2:07 pm, members of the Greene County sheriff’s office assisted a JPD officer with locating two young girls reported missing from the grandmother’s residence at the Greenewood Apartments. The girls were located a short time later with their father. At 4:59 pm, a deputy was advised of the theft of diesel fuel from two semi trailers parked in the field on K Ave, between 160th and 170th Streets in Highland Township. At 6:10 pm Tauwana Rae Laue, 36, of Grand Junction turned herself in to the Greene County sheriff’s office on a warrant for a false report to a public entity – serious misdemeanor*.
Sunday, Oct. 5: At 3:15 am, a deputy assisted a JPD officer with a domestic altercation in the 500 block of W. Washington St. At 4:14 pm, a deputy was dispatched to Scranton to investigate the report of a blue dirt bike being ridden on the city streets.
Saturday, Oct. 4: At 5:26 am a deputy was dispatched to a car-deer accident that occurred on 230th Street between C and D Ave. Terry Ray Anschutz, 18, of Grand Junction was westbound when a deer ran onto the roadway. Anschutz struck the deer and his 2002 Ford F-250 pickup truck went into the south ditch. Anschutz was not injured. An estimated of damage to the truck was not determined. At 10:08 am a deputy was dispatched to the 500 block of North 16th St in Grand Junction to investigate criminal mischief to the sun roof of a vehicle. At 11:48 am a deputy spoke with a resident in the 1900 block of T Ave in Franklin Township about the possibility of her credit card being compromised. The deputy advised the female to call her credit card company and check on the reported charges. At 8:15 pm, a deputy was dispatched to the 1800 block of County Road E-53 Street west of Grand Junction to investigate criminal mischief to a new wooden fence.
Friday, Oct. 3: At 3:11 pm two deputies were dispatched to the 2100 block of I Ave in Greenbrier Township to investigate the report of the violation of a no contact order and cell phone harassment. The caller’s cell phone was traced to a location in Mississippi. At 3:15 pm a deputy was advised by a Grand Junction resident in the 600 block of South 15th St that her vehicle had been tampered with in the night. She reported nothing was taken from her vehicle. At 7:45 pm a deputy was advised of a car-deer accident on 237th Street west of Jefferson. The driver indicated that she had left the scene and would come to the Law Enforcement Center to pick up a state accident report.
Thursday, Oct. 2: At 5:46 am a deputy was dispatched to a reported vehicle in the ditch on County Road E-53 (240th St) near I Ave in Scranton Township. The pickup sustained no damage and no report was needed. Due to the intense fog the vehicle was not removed at that time. At 9:06 am a deputy was advised of an overdue motorist that did not arrive at Spring Lake Park. The deputy was able to contact the driver by cell phone and she was found to be safe, but due to the fog she was just arriving at the park.
Wednesday, Oct. 1: At 7:21 pm the animal control officer was asked to check the welfare of a reported neglected dog in Churdan. At 7:33 pm a deputy was dispatched to the report of a shotgun being discharged in the direction of persons at a rural farm site in the 2200 block of W Ave in Washington township. The truck was followed by the land owner into Boone County before losing sight of the pickup. A detailed description of the vehicle was given to contagious law enforcement agencies.
