First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson invites the public to a retreat featuring writer/speaker/advocate Michelle Laughlin Saturday, Oct. 25, at 2 pm at John 15 Vineyard.

Laughlin’s life is a story of perseverance and achievement. Before she was born, she experienced amniotic band syndrome which left her with only one arm and no legs. Other than that, she lives a “pretty ordinary life” in Johnston with her husband of 21 years and two children.

She uses her life experience to inspire students every day in her position as student disabilities coordinator at Drake University. “With a disarming, direct, and entertaining voice, Michelle has inspired more than 100 audiences to live beyond the obvious and embrace the story they were meant to experience,” according to a press release.

The retreat will begin at 2 pm, with Laughlin speaking at 2:30. There will be recreational activities available at the vineyard at 4 pm, supper at 6 pm, and dessert/closing at 7 pm. There is no charge.

Persons who would like more information or to RSVP can contact First Presbyterian Church at 515-386-2514 or firstpres@netins.net
