As the weather cools down, basketball activities are heating up at Jefferson park & recreation department. Visit the Greene County Community Center at 204 W. Harrison St for more information on the following upcoming classes or to register.
Youth basketball league: A recreational basketball league is available for youth grades 3-6. League practices begin the week of Nov. 3 and the season ends Dec. 20. Youth will be placed on teams. Teams will practice all together once a week, with girls teams practicing on Thursdays and boys teams on Tuesdays. The evening practices will be held at Greene County elementary. Games will be played on Saturday mornings beginning Nov. 15 at the Greene County Community Center and in surrounding communities. Registration deadline is Oct. 17. Girls 3-day basketball camp: This camp for 3rd-6th grade girls will be led by head Ram girls basketball coach Chad Morton. The camp will be held at the Greene County elementary on Oct. 20, 21 and 23 from 3:30 to 5 pm. (The camp date has changed from the published date in the fall program guide.) Middle school girls pre season basketball camp: This camp, led by head Ram basketball coach Chad Morton, will help prepare girls in grade 7-8 for their upcoming season. Camp will be held at the Greene County Middle School from Monday, Oct. 27 through Friday, Oct. 31 from 3:30 to 5 pm. Registration deadline is Oct. 22. Mini basketball: Mini basketball is an introductory basketball program for youth in grades 1-2. The program will meet at the Greene County elementary gym on Saturdays beginning Nov. 1 through Dec. 12 from 9 to 10 am. On Friday, Dec. 12, youngsters will display their skills at half time for the Greene County Ram girls home game. Registration deadline is Oct. 24. Meet the Ram girls basketball team: Mark your calendars for Thursday, Nov. 13. The Ram girls basketball team will be at the Greene County Community Center from 6 to 7:30 pm. The team will organize games and activities to promote the game as well as provide leadership to K-8 youngsters. Participants are encouraged to bring a white shirt for autographs The date for the Meet the Rams was moved back a week from what was published in the fall brochure.
