The public is invited and encouraged to attend a groundbreaking ceremony at the house, located at 901 W. Washington St in Jefferson, on Sunday, Oct. 5, at 1:30 pm. After a short program to include introduction of the family and tours of the house currently under construction, the group will caravan to two other homes where Helping Hands repair projects were recently completed. The home at 901 W. Washington St was recently acquired by the local Habitat affiliate with plans for extensive renovation. According to Harry Ahrenholtz, project manager and Habitat board president, volunteers are excited for the prospect of rejuvenating an attractive home in a very nice neighborhood.

“The potential for this home to return to its former glory and to serve again as a nurturing home for another young family is a win-win” said Ahrenholtz. “The neighborhood and community benefits from cleaning up a long-neglected property and this great young family gets to grow up together in an attractive, efficient and comfortable home”.

As with all Habitat families, the Saffells will pay for their home through a zero-interest mortgage with Habitat. In addition, Justin and Megan, along with their family and friends, will invest at least 450 hours of sweat equity working alongside volunteers in renovating the house. The Saffells will also complete homeowner education and financial management classes.

This will be the 24th home built or renovated by Habitat for Humanity of Boone and Greene Counties in partnership with local families in need of decent, affordable housing.
