Commercial pesticide applicator courses told

Greene County Extension   will  host two continuing instructional courses (CIC) for commercial pesticide applicators in October.  All courses will be held at the Greene County ISU Extension and Outreach office in Jefferson. The training is required to be completed by the end of the year in order to maintain commercial certification with the state of Iowa.

A session for roadside, forest, and aquatic pest management applicators will be held  Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 9  to 11:30 am. Individuals who are certified through the state of Iowa for pesticide application in Category 2 – forest pest, Category 5 – aquatic pest, Category 6 – right-of-way, and Category 10 – demonstration and research, can receive continuing instructional credit for the course.  Topics to be covered include effects of pesticides on groundwater and other non-target sites, phytotoxicity, pesticide stewardship, right-of-way weed control, forest weed control, aquatic pest control, and ash tree inspections/emerald ash borer treatment options.

Mosquito and public health pest management applicator recertification course will be held Thursday, Oct. 23, from 9 to 11:30 am.  Categories for continuing instructional credit include Category 7D – community insect management, Category 8 – public health pest, and Category 10 – demonstration and research. This training will include topics such as update on laws and regulations, effects of pesticides on groundwater and other non-target sites, pesticide toxicity and exposure, pesticide stewardship, and update on mosquitoes, ticks, and other public health pests.

Pre-registration is preferred for each course, with the pre-registration deadline of 4:30 pm the day before the training.
