A display at the Jefferson public library during October showcases the great things that 4-H offers young people and the positive impact participation in 4-H has on communities.
“4-H, the nation’s largest youth development and empowerment organization, cultivates confident kids who tackle the issues that matter most in their communities right now,” a spokesperson said.
In the United States, 4-H programs empower six million young people through the 109 land-grant universities and Cooperative Extension programs. 4-H is also active with youth in more than 50 other countries.
Research shows that, when compared to their peers, young people in 4-H are more likely to contribute to their communities, pursue healthy behaviors, and engage in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs during out-of-school time.
Linda Hedges (pictured), Greenbrier 4-H club leader who arranged the display, adds, “4-H has been active in Greene County for many decades and has enabled many young people from a rural Iowa background to go on to be leaders in all areas of their lives.”
