Friends of Rippey: The Friends of Rippey met on Sunday evening, Sept. 21, with 17 members present.  The group is hoping to finish some projects over the next few months.  They decided to have a breakfast on the first Saturday in December to coincide with Calendar Days that the banks traditionally have.

Rippey Lions Club, Sept. 18: The Rippey Lions Club held its regular meeting led by president Nancy Burrow. The meal was served by Phyllis Bardole and Carmen McColley. During the business meeting, it was decided to  become a sponsor for the Bike Ride to Rippey, which means that the Rippey Lions Club name will appear on the BRR T-shirts to promote the ride. The Lions serve their famous roast beef sundaes at this event for the riders and others.

The park committee will meet soon to work on plans for the location of playground equipment at local parks. Information was shared about Camp Herko Hollow for children with diabetes which is sponsored by Lions Clubs in Iowa.

The program was presented by Dale and Nancy Hanaman about being prepared for a weather emergency, including planning a place for shelter and a kit of items persons might need such as water and a battery radio. Nancy and Dale are prepared to be part of an Early Response Team as part of the Iowa United Methodist Church under the director of Pastor Catie Newman, disaster response coordinator for the Iowa UMC Conference. They also shared about items included in a food bucket for cleanup after flooding, wind or other severe weather.

The Lions Club’s next meeting is Thursday, Oct. 2.  Interested folks are welcome to attend. For more information, please call Nancy Hanaman, 515-436-7684

Sharon Laub, Jean Borgeson, Phil and Toni Roberts enjoyed a late afternoon ride on Saturday, Sept. 20.  There was no plan, but the foursome ended up in Woodward, where they ate at Cayanne’s Cafe.  They enjoyed the atmosphere of the old building and the visiting old friends relish when they reminisce.
