Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:
Tuesday, Sept. 30: At 8:05 am a deputy was asked to check for a white van that was reported in the 1500 block of 150th Street in Dawson Township.
Monday, Sept. 29: At 11:30 am the chief deputy sheriff investigated the reported theft of personal property from a residence in the 600 block of State St in Scranton. At 11:38 am the Greene County sheriff’s office investigated the attempted abduction of a 3-year-old female that was riding her bike on Hager Street near S 12th St in Grand Junction. At 12:35 pm the Greene County sheriff’s office investigated three reports of suspicious white vans in different areas of the county, possibly relating to the reported abduction in Grand Junction. At 5:06 pm a deputy was unable to locate a careless driver that was reported to be exceeding 100 mile per hour on Highway 144 south of Grand Junction. At 5:30 pm a deputy spoke with a Rippey resident about his seeing a suspicious white van in Perry over the week end. At 6:39 pm a deputy retrieved property stolen from a residence in Scranton that was found while cleaning a vacant house. At 7:45 pm a deputy , the chief deputy sheriff and the sheriff, along with members of the Paton fire department assisted in finding a young male that became scared and hid inside his home in the 300 block of West Paton St in Paton. The juvenile was found to be safe. At 8:25 pm a deputy spoke with the father of a male teen in the 1600 block of D Ave in Scranton Township about the safety of the youth.
Sunday, Sept. 28: At 10:03 pm a deputy was asked to check for a reported suspicious vehicle in the 1000 block of Irving Street in Scranton. The vehicle was not located at that time. At 10:25 pm a deputy was dispatched to the Sparky’s One Stop in Churdan to investigate the report of a suspicious white vehicle. The vehicle had left the store before the deputy’s arrival.

Friday, Sept. 26: At 8:45 am, the chief deputy sheriff and K-9 Leo assisted K-9 units from the Boone County sheriff’s office and the Boone police department with a search of the Boone High School. At 2:37 pm a deputy investigated a burglary and theft of a chain saw in the 1200 block of B Ave in Scranton Township. At 6:38 pm two deputies and units from the Greene County Emergency Medical Services, Panora rescue, Bayard fire and rescue and the Scranton fire department all responded to a two vehicle accident on Highway 25 at County Road E-63 (330th St) in Willow Township. David Russell Daley, 18, of Bayard was northbound on Highway 25. He attempted to turn left onto E-63, but turned in front of Jennifer Rose Brosh, 41, of rural Scranton, who was southbound on Highway 25. A 2001 A passenger in the Daley vehicle, Marissa Marshal, 14, of Bayard was transported by the Greene County EMS to the Greene County Medical Center for further evaluation and later released. David Douglas Brosh, 46, a passenger in the Brosh vehicle was transported to the Saint Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll by the Panora Ambulance Service. Brosh was treated and later released from the hospital. Daley was cited for failure to yield upon a left turn. Brosh’s 2010 Nissan Murano vehicle was estimated to have sustained $12,000 in damages. Damage to Daley’s 2001 Subaru LAWD was estimated to exceed value.

Wednesday, Sept. 24: At 8:17 am a deputy investigated a reported physical altercation between two youth on a bus at the Greene County Intermediate School in Grand Junction. The youth and their parents were spoken to about the fighting and after further investigation, charges may be filed. At 3:03 pm a deputy was advised by a Paton-Churdan School employee of receiving harassing phone calls from a parent. At 6:33 pm a deputy was advised of a small pink girls bicycle that was found along the roadway at County Road P-14 (J Ave) and 260th St in Jackson Township. The bike was taken to the city impound in Jefferson.
Tuesday, Sept. 23: At 5:20 pm deputies were asked to help locate a stolen vehicle that was reported to be in western Greene County. The vehicle was not located at that time. At 8:30 pm a deputy checked the roadway on County Road P-33 (S Ave) near 190th St in Junction Township for a deer that was struck by a vehicle. The driver of the car stated that she continued on and would pick up a DOT accident report at a later time.
Monday, Sept. 22: At 7:58 am, a deputy and an Iowa State Patrol Officer responded to the report of a bus that had been driven off the roadway at 200th Street and K Ave in Bristol Township. Driver of the bus was Harry Silbaugh, 68, of Jefferson. There were five children on the bus, with no injuries reported at that time. A Department of Transportation enforcement officer inspected the bus for mechanical failures, but found none. Silbaugh was cited for failure to maintain control. No damage estimate was determined for the bus and the accident remains under investigation at this time. At 10:22 am a deputy was dispatched to the 1400 block of O Ave in Grant Township to investigate the theft of 12 head of 1100 to 1400 pound feeder steers and heifers that were taken in the past several weeks. The value of the cattle was estimated to be $27,000. At1:50 pm a deputy was asked to investigate the report of animal abandonment in the 300 block of South 13th St in Grand Junction. At 5:28 pm a deputy investigated a reported assault in the 200 block of Main Street in Grand Junction.
Sunday, Sept. 21: At 9:59 am, a deputy was dispatched to the 1600 block of 160th St in Dawson Township to investigate the theft of a skid loader, a 4-wheel ATV and a small grass seeder. At 1:43 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 800 block of Highway 4 east of Churdan for the report of an attempted burglary to a farm building. Nothing appears to have been taken at the location. At 6:25 pm a deputy was dispatched to a single vehicle accident at the Sparky’s One Stop in Rippey. David Merle Coon, 65, of rural Jefferson attempted to park near the store when he struck the building. Damage to his 2012 Dodge Ram pickup truck was estimated at $1,500. An estimate of damage to the building was not determined. The accident remains under investigation.
Saturday, Sept. 20: At 8:58 am, a deputy was dispatched to the Casey’s General Store in Grand Junction for the report of an unattended 3 or 4 year old child in the store with no parent or guardian present. The deputy determined the residence of the child and will be contacting the Department of Human Services about the situation.
Friday, Sept. 19: At 9:55 pm, a deputy and the Churdan fire department were dispatched to the 1300 block of County Road E-18 (130th St) in Dawson Township for a reported car fire. After an investigation by the deputy, he subsequently arrested Joshua Harold Gingery, 30, of Slater for operating while intoxicated (OWI)- first offense and failure to maintain control*. The Gingery vehicle was estimated to be a total loss.
Thursday, Sept. 18: At 5:17 pm a deputy and the Paton fire department responded to a farm tractor fire between 150th and 140th Street on T Ave south of Paton. The 2013 Versatile 375 4-wheel drive tractor that is owned by Neese Incorporated of Grand Junction was being driven by Larry Joy Jr of Jefferson. Damage to the tractor was estimated to be $100,000.
Wednesday, Sept. 17: At 7:26 am a deputy was advised that Reanna Genell Halterman, 33, of rural Jefferson had struck a deer in the 1100 block of 245th Street in Jackson Township. Halterman was not injured but did leave the scene. The deputy went to the Halterman residence and to take the report. At 7:52 am a deputy was dispatched to the 900 block of Highway 4 north of Jefferson to check the report of hog in the front yard of the residence and near the roadway. The owner was contacted and placed the sow back into the pen. At 12:57 pm two deputies and the chief deputy sheriff all responded to a trespassing and harassment call in the 600 block of Eagle St in Scranton. After an initial investigation a deputy requested that Greene County Emergency Medical Services personnel also respond to the location. After further investigation, Haley Marie Jensen, 31, was transported by a deputy to the Greene County Medical center for a medical evaluation. Jensen will be issued arrest warrants for harassment and interference with official acts at a later time.
Tuesday, Sept. 16: At 9:55 am a deputy was dispatched to the 300 block of Hill Street in Churdan to investigate the reported theft of a youngster’s bicycle. At 11:05 am a deputy assisted the Boone County sheriff’s office with case follow up in Grand Junction.
Monday, Sept. 15: At 10:47 am a deputy investigated a burglary and theft of cash and other personal items from a residence in the 500 block of Main St East in Grand Junction. At 1:25 pm a Grand Junction went to the LEC to talk with a deputy about identity theft and that his bank account may have been compromised electronically.
Sunday, Sept. 14: At 7:19 pm a deputy was advised of a possible intoxicated driver at the Sparky’s One Stop in Churdan. After an investigation by the deputy he arrested Jesse Kenneth James Summerfield, 31, of Churdan for operation of a motor vehicle while barred, reckless driving and child endangerment.* At 10:45 pm, a Webster County deputy transported a wanted male subject to the Webster – Greene County line for a Greene county deputy to take custody of the male for transport to the Greene County Jail.
Saturday, Sept. 13: At 12:32 pm a deputy was dispatched to a single vehicle accident between the S curves on County Road E-53 east of Jefferson. Aracelli Elizabeth Stroburg, 18, of Jefferson was westbound when she drove off the roadway and entered the ditch, coming to rest in a pasture with standing water. Stroburg was transported by Greene County EMS to Greene County Medical Center for evaluation of minor injuries. A medical condition may have contributed to the accident. No damage estimate for her 2009 Volvo S40, nor the fence she drove through, was provided. At 3 pm a deputy spoke with a resident in the 1800 block of 283rd St in Grant Township about a harassment concern.

Thursday, Sept. 11: At 7:24 pm the animal control officer was dispatched to the 1900 block of County Road P-14 (J Ave) in Greenbrier Township for the report of horses on the roadway. The owner of the horses was advised and a family member placed the horses back into the pasture.

Monday, Sept. 8: At 11:58 am a deputy was dispatched to Jordan Avenue and 230th Street in Jackson Township to investigate the report of trespassing on private property. At 3:24 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 500 block of 11th Street South in Grand Junction to investigate the violation of a protective order. After an investigation the deputy subsequently arrested Richard Dean Tuhn Jr, 35, of Grand Junction for violation of a no contact order (two counts).* At 4:27 pm a deputy was advised at the law enforcement center of a cell phone that may have been stolen from a house party in the 700 block of P Ave in Hardin Township. At 4:40 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 2400 block of 337th St in Washington Township to investigate the harassment of a county employee.
Sunday, Sept. 7: At 10:20 am a deputy was dispatched to a car-deer accident on 130th St just east of L Ave in Highland Township. Eric Shannon Flinn, 40, of Churdan was westbound when a deer ran into the roadway. Flinn swerved to avoid striking the deer. His vehicle entered the south ditch and rolled once. Flinn was wearing his seat belt and was not injured. Damage to his 2004 Toyota Tacoma pickup was estimated at $5,000. At 11:50 am a deputy was advised at the Greene County Law Enforcement Center of criminal mischief to a vehicle’s tire that occurred in the 700 block of P Ave in Hardin Township. The tire was reported slashed by another individual as the driver and the vehicle attempted to leave the rural residence. The incident is under investigation at this time.
Saturday, Sept. 6: At 11:35 am a deputy was advised of a possible stolen motorcycle heading into Greene County from Guthrie County. The motorcycle was not located at that time. At 1:12 pm a deputy assisted the JPD in responding to a domestic dispute in the 300 block of W. Reed Street. At 5:36 pm, two deputies responded to an assault in the 700 block of Eagle Street in Scranton. After an investigation by the deputies, Jamie Jo Francis Theulen, 18, of Scranton was arrested for disorderly conduct*. At 6:53 pm, a deputy spoke with a Scranton resident about harassing phone calls that were made to her residence. At 7:51 pm, a deputy investigated the report of a dog attacking another dog in the 700 block of Grant Street in Scranton.
Friday, Sept. 5: No activity reported.
Thursday, Sept. 4: At 5:05 am a deputy was dispatched to County Road E-53 and T Ave west of Grand Junction for a car-deer accident. Brenda Elizabeth Gutierrez, 39, of Perry, was westbound on E-53 when a deer ran onto the roadway at T Ave and was struck by the Gutierrez vehicle. Gutierrez was not injured but her 2007 Toyota sustained $8500 in damages. At 5:09 pm the sheriff’s office was advised of a possible intoxicated driver leaving Grand Junction and possibly traveling to Jefferson. A JPD officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle described in the 600 block of S. Cedar St and subsequently arrested the driver. At 7:08 pm a deputy was unable to locate several dirt bikes reported to be operating erratically at the Raccoon River boat ramp on Jordan Ave in Jackson Township.
Wednesday, Sept. 3: At 6:41 am a deputy was dispatched for a reported dairy cow meandering at the intersection of 15th and Hager Street in Grand Junction. The deputy reported that he did not locate the suspicious cow. At 9:04 am a deputy was advised by a resident in the 500 block of E. Rebecca Street in Grand Junction of the theft of tools from the back of a pickup. At 10:30 am a deputy was advised by a Gowrie resident that he had struck a deer in the 1500 block of County Road E-18 in Dawson Township. He had left the scene and will pick up a state report at another time. At 11:50 am deputies assisted the Jefferson police department with checking an abandoned house for vagrants in the 100 block of Grimmell Rd.
Tuesday, Sept. 2: At 9:58 am a deputy was dispatched to the 300 block of North 13th Street in Grand Junction to investigate a burglary and theft of personal property. At 3:01 pm the Greene County sheriff’s office and the Jefferson police department assisted DNR conservation officers with trying to locate an off road dirt bike that was driving on lawns and through farm fields.
Monday, Sept. 1: At 8:15 am a deputy was advised of a downed power line at Grant and State Street in Scranton. The power company was advised of the downed line. At 9:02 am four members of the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, three Iowa State Patrol officers, Grand Junction fire and rescue, the Jefferson fire department and personnel from the Greene County Emergency Medical Services all responded to a two vehicle accident on the overpass bridge on Highway 30 just east of Grand Junction. Killed in the accident was Daniel Reetz, 27, of Boone. Reetz was alone in his vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle was Lombardo Ramos of Oskaloosa, who had his family as passengers. Ramos, his wife and three children were all transported to the Greene County Medical Center for further evaluation. The accident was investigated by the Iowa Highway Patrol. At 1:18 pm a deputy investigated the theft of a bicycle from a residence in the 1000 block of Linn Street in Scranton. At 2:05 pm a deputy was dispatched to Division Street and 18thStreet in Grand Junction to investigate a reported suspicious vehicle and occupant. The deputy located the male subject and checked his identity. The male agreed to leave the area. At 4:12 pm, the Union Pacific railroad advised the sheriff’s office of three people trespassing on the railroad right of way at Jordan Avenue and 237th St in Jackson Township. The deputy was not able to locate the three subjects.
