Step back a few years at Deal’s Orchard this Saturday

Deal’s Orchard will take visitors back a generation or two with an Old-Fashioned Fun on the Farm Day at the orchard this Saturday, Sept. 20.

Owners Cindy and Jerald Deal have planned special activities on several weekends this fall. “Our Fall Festival is still our biggest event, but we know not everybody can come that weekend, so we’re planning some extra things on other weekends, too,” Cindy Deal said.

A highlight for Saturday will be a tractor parade featuring the 4-County Tractor Club. Depending on the weather, there may be as many as 40 vintage tractors at the orchard. Again depending on the weather and how dry the roads are, the tractors will parade along the orchard roads. The parade is set to begin at 11 am; some tractors will be on display throughout the day.

Little White Lye Soap 3From 10 am to noon, Shannon Bardole (pictured) will be making soap the old-fashioned way. Bardole does business as Little White Lye Soap and Franklin Broom Works. She’ll have soap and brooms to sell. She’ll return with her broom making equipment during the Fall Festival Oct. 11-12.

Visitors at the orchard will be able to dip candles, make rope, and shell and grind corn as those chores were done decades ago.

Lunch will be available at the orchard, and the corn maze will be open. Apple Acres Family Fun Zone will also be open, with its jumping pillow, giant slides, pedal tractors, wiggle cars, pony corral, corn box (think sand, but cleaner) and more. And, of course, the Apple Barn will be open with apples, cider, homemade pies, apple fritters, and a wide variety of gift items.
