Next Saturday is a book lover’s Happy Day

BooksNext Saturday is one of the best days of the year for book lovers, as the Friends of the Library kick off the 22nd annual used book sale.

Members of the Friends have already begun the huge task of organizing hundreds of books – both hardcover and paperback – for adults and children, DVDs, CDs, puzzles and educational games. There are cookbooks, reference books, “coffee table” books, and plenty of westerns and romances. According to Friends president Barb Labate, the sale is “overflowing with books and DVDs.” The inside word from Labate is that the library has withdrawn many mysteries, inspirationals, romances and young adult books. Those items are included in the sale.

The sale is open Sept. 20-27 during regular library hours, Monday and Wednesday from 1 to 8 pm, Tuesday and Thursday from 11 am to 8 pm, Friday from 1 to 5:30 pm and Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm.

The sale is open only members of Friends of the Library on Saturday, but memberships will be available at the door for only $5. On the last day of the sale, Sept. 27, everything will be half price and bags of books will be sold for $4.

The used book sale is the Friends’ largest fundraiser during the year, allowing the Friends to support the library’s summer reading program and other projects.
