The Greene County Rams fell in volleyball in three sets to the fifth ranked Nevada Cubs in Jefferson Thursday. Scores were 15-25, 23-25 and 15-25.
The Cubs had long scoring runs in the first two sets. In the first, with the score 2-2, the Cubs had a 10 point run to go ahead 12-2, and the lead held up. In the second set, the teams traded the lead a few times, with the Rams up 5-1, the Cubs up 9-8, and the Rams up 17-10. The Cubs moved up to 17-14 before the Rams increased their lead to 21-15, but a win eluded the Rams as the Cubs scored 15 of the last 21 points. The Rams did not recover for the third set. Aside from a 3-3 tie, they trailed the entire set.
The Rams are 1-1 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference and overall. The win over the Rams put the Cubs at 3-0 in the HOIAC and 7-2 overall.
