The Greene County Rams opened their volleyball season with a win Tuesday night in the middle school gym in Jefferson over the Raiders of Collins-Maxwell-Baxter. The score was 3-1, with game scores 25-13, 22-25, 25-15 and 25-23. The Rams are 1-0 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference.
The Rams were up 11-4 in the first set until CMB closed the gap to 11-9. The score was 12-10 but the Rams scored the last 13 points of the set.
Scoring was even in the second set until the Raiders had a 12-1 run and took a 22-15 lead. The Rams managed to tie the score at 22-22, but the Raiders scored the last three points to end the set. The Rams led throughout the third set.
The evening ended with excitement. The Rams were behind 2-9 early in the set, and at mid-point, the Raiders were ahead 16-10. The Rams closed the gap to three points, behind at 14-17. The Rams the scored six points in a row and led at 20-17. CMB tied the set at 21-21, and then the Rams went up 24-22. The Raiders scored a point, 24-23, but a Raider served into the net, the ball went back to the Rams, and the ended the set 25-23.
The Rams are 1-0 inn the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. They play the sixth ranked Nevada Cubs Thursday in Jefferson.
