The Greene County high school cross country teams opened their seasons Sept. 4 at the West Central Valley invitation meet at the 5 X 80 golf course south of Menlo. The girls placed first in the meet and the boys placed third.
Ram sophomore Olivia Hansen led the girls and finished second in the 4K run with a time of 17:22.34. The first place time was 16:34.42 by Destiny Scar of Nodaway Valley (Greenfield). Other Rams scoring points for the team were seniors Emily Christensen (11th) Eme Johnson (12th) and Noelle Gray (14th) and freshman Emily Finch (19th).
Point totals on the girls’ side of the meet were Greene County 49, West Central Valley 55, I-35 (Truro) 64, Exira/Elh Horn-Kimballton 77, and Audubon 102.
Winning time in the boys’ 5K was 17:15.29 by Nodaway Valley’s Shane Breheny. Ram senior Landon Braun placed ninth with a time of 18:36.84. Senior Logan Egeland’s time of 19:09.13 put him in 13th place.
Nodaway Valley won the title with 21 points. Other point totals were West Central Valley was second with 76 and Greene County had 83 points. Other teams in order of finish were Woodward Academy, I-35, Adair-Casey, Clarinda Academy, E/EH-K, Martensdale-St Mary’s and Paton-Churdan.
