At 7:15 there will be a program featuring Major General Tim Orr, adjutant general of the Iowa National Guard. Orr became the Iowa Army National Guard’s deputy adjutant general in January of 2009 and became adjutant general in March of that year. He has received numerous military awards including the Legion of Merit (two awards), meritorious service medal (with silver oak leaf and bronze oak leaf clusters), the Army commendation medal (with two bronze oak leaf clusters), and the Army achievement medal (with two bronze oak leaf clusters).

Orr has been in the Iowa Army National Guard since 1979, his senior year at Boone High School. He received his officer’s commission through the U.S. Army’s Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, GA, in 1985.

He is married to Lieutenant Colonel (ret) Suzanne Orr, and they have two children: son Jacob and daughter Elizabeth. They reside in Johnston.

Orr was last in Greene County with Governor Terry Brandstad to present Greene County with the first Home Base Iowa designation.

The program will conclude with the playing of Taps at 8 pm by Wayne Lautner.

September 7 – 13th has been designated by the Elks Grand Lodge as Elks Patriotism Week. Jefferson exalted ruler Hollie Roberts said, “Our Heroes Dinner is now a tradition in Greene County. It is fitting for us to honor those who have served, and are serving, to make Greene County a safe place to live.” The evening is free to all Greene County heroes and their spouses. Because of space restrictions, the event will not be open to the public.

Those members of Greene County law enforcement, fire departments, EMT’s and paramedics, as well as veterans, and members of the Guard and Reserve are urged to make their reservations early by calling the Jefferson Elks Lodge 515-386-2106 before Monday, Sept. 8. The event will be Thursday, Sept. 11, at 6 pm at the Jefferson Elks Lodge.
