The big day is finally near for the new library in Scranton. The move into the H.F. and Maude Marchant Memorial Library on Main Street in Scranton is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 6, from 9 am to 3 pm. If needed, the work will continue on Sunday, starting at 1 pm until completed.
Volunteers are needed to help in the process. Workers to move books and materials are welcome as well as assistance in providing food for the volunteers. Both are important to the success of the project.
The work on Sept. 6 will be divided into two shifts so that no one has to dedicate the entire day to the move. Volunteers are asked to commit to assisting from 9 am to noon or from noon to 3 pm.
Refreshments will be provided. So that the proper amount of food can be prepared and available to feed the hungry workers, volunteers are asked to contact the library.
To offer your assistance, call the Scranton library at 712-652-3452 or email: admin@scranton.lib.ia.us . Please be sure to mention if you can furnish food or if you will help move materials.
To prepare for the move, the library will be closed the first week of September. Patrons can stock up on materials through noon on Saturday, Aug. 30.
Plans are to reopen the library in the new location at 11 am on Wednesday, Sept. 10.
Scranton Betterment Committee and Friends of the Scranton Library are working together to host a grand opening at the library and town celebration on Saturday, Sept. 27. Details on this event will be forthcoming. ~courtesy of The Scranton Journal
