The Jefferson park and recreation department will begin its fall adult fitness classes Tuesday, Sept. 2. Registrations are being accepted now at the Greene County Community Center at 204 W. Harrison St in Jefferson.
Fitness classes are open to community center members and non members, although they cost a little less for members. Most of the fitness classes also use the JPRD’s punch pass system, which allows participants to pay only for the actual classes they attend, not by the five or six week session.
A wide variety of classes will fit into any schedule and work toward almost any fitness goal.
- Tone & Tighten – Mon/Wed/Fri from 6 to 6:45 am, with instructor Jenny Wessling. A toning class targeting your total body. The class will focus on both upper and lower body by toning the hips, thighs, glutes, arms, shoulders and back with the use of hand weights.
- Big ball toning – Tues/Thurs from 6 to 6:45 am, with instructor Jean Van Gilder. An anaerobic workout done with a stability ball provides a total body workout while strengthening your core.
- Morning Groove – Mon/Wed from 8 to 8:45 am, with instructor Jean Van Gilder. Class is set to music. Warm up, stretch and walk/move for 45 minutes, setting your own pace by using weights.
- Cycling – Mon/Wed from 12 to 12:45 pm, with instructor Simeon Lang. Use a stationary bike for a cardiovascular workout. Control the intensity of your ride as you pedal the bike. Burn calories, strengthen your hear and build cardio and muscular endurance with no impact on your joints.
- EXTREME Fit – Tues/Thurs from 12 to 12:45 pm, with instructor Simeon Lang. A total body strength/cardio challenge for any fitness level, with the participant adjusting intensity as he or she moves from station to station.
- Interval step – Tues/Thurs from 5:30 to 6:15 pm, with instructor Linda Tipton. Get an aerobic workout, either high or low impact. Participants set their own pace, making it a great workout for all ages and abilities.
- Zumba – Mon/Wed from 5:15 to 6 pm, or Tues/Thurs from 8:30 to 9:15 am, with instructor Danelle Mason. Also Tues/Thurs from 5:30 to 6:30 pm, with instructors Maralie Ruth and Haily Larson. Zumba combines fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body using an aerobic fitness approach to achieve a uniquely blended balance of cardio and muscle toning benefits. A Zumba class creates a party like atmosphere that provides a non-intimidating opportunity for non-dances, new exercisers or those who have previously hesitated to participate in a group class.
- Zumba Gold – Mon/Wed/Fri from 9 to 9:45 am, with instructor Danelle Mason. Zumba Gold modifies the moves and pacing of the Zumba formula to suit the needs of active older participants, as well as those just starting their journey to a fit and healthy lifestyle. What stays the same is the zesty Latin music, the exhilarating easy-to-follow moves and the invigorating party-like atmosphere.
- Yoga – Mon/Wed from 12 to 1 pm, with instructor Peg Moranville. Build strength and flexibility. Class starts Oct. 6.
