With the start of a new school year the Jefferson park and recreation department is ready to kick into high gear with the fall program schedule.
The always popular mini cheerleading program is planned for next week, Tuesday and Thursday, Aug. 26 and 28, from 3:45 to 5 pm at Greene County elementary. Boys and girls in preK through fifth grade will learn cheers from the fall Ram cheerleading squad and then cheer at the Rams’ first home football game Aug. 29 vs South Central Calhoun. The healthcare providers at McFarland Clinic are once again sponsoring ReCharge Wednesdays, making the program free. Students in kindergarten through eighth grade are welcome at the Community Center Wednesdays from 2:15 to 3:30 pm for a healthy snack and organized games and activities. Participants will practice making healthy choices in what they eat and do. ReCharge Wednesday will begin Wednesday, Aug. 27 and run throughout the school year. There will be no ReCharge when school is not in session or if school dismisses due to weather. Children must be enrolled with the waiver signed by a parent or guardian to participate. The flag football program for boys and girls in grades 1-3 are invited for flag football Tuesdays, Sept. 9-30, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at Kelso Park. Mouth guards are mandatory. Registrations are also being accepted for the U6 soccer program. The introductory soccer program for boys and girls under age 6 (as of July 31, 2014) will be held on Mondays, Sept. 15-Oct. 13, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at Kelso Park. Shin guards are mandatory.
