Youngsters got a big lesson in the difference a day can make.
Tuesday, the Jefferson municipal pool was the place to enjoy an afternoon of fun in warm, sunny weather.
Wednesday morning, children were awakened earlier than needed for the first day of school by a very boisterous thunderstorm that arrived before alarm clocks went off. About an inch of rain fell, much of it during “good bye” time. Pictures stepping onto the bus or walking into the school were hurried affairs in the heavy rain. Smart parents might have suggested using last year’s backpack and wearing last year’s shoes to save the nice, new things for a drier day.
There’s an adage about a rainy wedding day foretelling a long and happy marriage. Perhaps a rainy first day of school sets up a really great school year.
