An auction and supper fundraiser for the new Grand Junction Community Center will be held Friday, Aug. 22, at 5:30 pm on Main Street in Grand Junction. More than 100 items have been donated by area businesses and residents for the silent and live auction. All proceeds go to the new community center fund.
Professional auctioneer Dale Higgins of Grand Junction will conduct the live auction. Items include antiques, collectibles, household items, garden and outdoor equipment, furniture, and Iowa and Iowa state memorabilia.
An autographed basketball from Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg and an autographed football from coach Paul Rhoades will certainly see some hot bidding from Cyclone fans. Hawkeye fans will be able to bid on a football autographed by the 2014 team members, and other black-and-gold Iowa items including a fleece blanket, cooler and bag chair.
Top items to be auctioned include a limited edition Terry Redlin painting, Depression glass, walnut dining table and chairs with matching hutch, antique school desks, and a vintage mirror.
Other items in the auction block include two church pews, three tractor seats, autoharp, electric guitar, historic cast iron Lincoln Highway sign, small trailer, Huffy bicycle, wine rack, kid-size Case IH pedal tractor, and East Greene yearbooks from the late 1970s and early 1980s.
A supper will be served by sisters Diane (Hoskinson) Ostrander and Denise (Hoskinson) Jacobs, members of a longtime Grand Junction family. The menu is maidrites, coney dogs, walking tacos, bars and homemade ice cream with a free will donation accepted.
