The Jefferson Garden Club has named Don and Alice Yepsen and their yard in the 500 block of W. Madison St as recipients of the Yard of the Month award for August. The Yepsens are pictured with Garden Club members Kathy Milligan (left) and Carol Ahrenholtz (right).
The yard is home for many vintage plants that came from Alice’s grandmother and other family members. Included is a wild rose bush that has been in the family for three generations. She lets it grow untrimmed to attract birds and butterflies.
The front yard is host to wild sunflowers, which butterflies love, mums, iris, roses, bachelor buttons and climbing clematis, with a red bud tree nearby.
The Jefferson Garden Club recognized property owners who take extra care to beautify their yards to encourage others to do the same.
