Paton-Churdan senior Jacob Bundt will begin the second year of his second two-year term on the State of Iowa Youth Advisory Council. He will be the senior member on the council, being the only one of the 24 members in his fourth year. He is also the only member from northwest Iowa.
Iowa Department of Human Rights director San Wong on Aug. 12 announced members for the 2014-2015 SIYAC. Youth were selected through a competitive application process for this leadership development program.
“Youth will have an opportunity to provide input directly to the Iowa legislature and to the executive branch,” Wong said of the intensive program.
SIYAC members research issues and serve as liaisons between youth and policymakers. Members are ages 14-20, and the council strives for diverse membership in race, ethnicity, disabilities, gender and geography. Ms. Wong said, “We not only want to give youth a voice, but we especially want to include youth who are traditionally underrepresented. This is an excellent opportunity to develop future leaders.”
