Jefferson city administrator Mike Palmer told the county board of supervisors during his monthly update Monday that building permits are prepared for a new Hy-Vee grocery store and issuance is pending the company’s payment of fees. Work on the 34,250 square-foot store is expected to begin in September or maybe sooner. “It’ll be a nice looking store,” Palmer said.
The building will face south as planned, with a street address of 106 W. Washington St. The loading docks were originally planned to be on the west side the building. They’ve been moved to the north side of the building off Reed St.
The city completed a water main improvement project earlier this summer to accommodate the project and to improve service to residents in the neighborhood. The $358,700 cost of the project will be recouped by the city through eventual increased tax revenue.
The current plan shows a 8,150 square-foot attached structure labeled “clinic” on the west side of the building, the side the loading docks were originally located. Palmer did not mention that to the supervisors.
An update on the Hy-Vee project is one of the items slated for a town hall meeting planned by Greene County Development Corp for next Monday at 6 pm at the Greene County Community Center.
