Two injured when deer runs into motorcycle

A pair of Jefferson residents were injured Sunday evening when a deer ran out of the ditch and into the motorcycle they were riding east of Cooper. The accident occurred at 9:01 pm.

According to information from the Greene County sheriff’s office, Jeffery David Sprague, 37, of rural Jefferson was eastbound on County Road E-57 near Q Ave when a deer ran from the north ditch and into the motorcycle. Sprague and a passenger, Amanda Eileen Clark, 34, of Jefferson were thrown to the pavement due to the impact. The accident reported noted Clark slid 40 to 60 feet on the pavement.

Sprague and Clark both suffered head injuries. They were transported to Greene County Medical Center by Greene County EMS, and then air lifted to a Des Moines hospital for further treatment. Neither Sprague nor Clark was wearing a helmet, according to the accident report.

Damage to Sprague’s 1995 Harley Davidson motorcycle was estimated at $3,000. The report did not include further information about the deer.
