Greene County had a winner at the Iowa State Fair before the fair even started. Becca Anderson of Paton won third place in the 5-6-year-old category of the children’s coloring contest, which was judged prior to the fair. Winning entries in the contest are on display in the Animal Learning Center.
Tyler Gathercoal, 22, of Grand Junction will advance to the semi-finals with his drum solo in the Bill Riley Talent Search after his performance Thursday. Tyler was an automatic qualifier as a finalist in last year’s show. His semi-final performance is slated for next Saturday, Aug. 16. He posted a “draft” of his solo on YouTube last week.
Qualifiers from the local Bill Riley Talent Search at the Bell Tower Festival were Ava Schilling of Jefferson in the Sprout division and Keaton Schlatter of Coon Rapids in the Senior division. They both perform Wednesday, Aug. 13.
