One of the most popular summertime tourism events for Greene County – Hot August Night – will return to Jefferson Thursday, Aug. 14, from 5 to 8 pm. Committee members, Chamber staff and volunteers invite people of all ages to spend the evening admiring all types of cars, trucks, motorcycles and antique tractors parked around the courthouse square and beyond.
Again this year, a $200 cash prize will be awarded to the visiting car club that brings and registers the most vehicles. The viewing public will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite car, truck, motorcycle, and tractor to receive the prestigious Peoples Choice awards. A Spirit Award will also be given to the vehicle that best captures the “spirit” of the annual cruise night in remembrance of car enthusiast Walter E. Hausdorfer. Exhibitors can register by clicking here: HAN registration
The prizes won’t go only to exhibitors. One lucky winner who has the right combination on his voting card will receive $25 in Chamber bucks. Only those who vote will be eligible to win. The winners will be announced at 7:30 pm.
The Greene County Chamber and the Jefferson Kiwanis Club working together will have hamburgers, pork loin burgers, chips, vegetables and water available to purchase. Free watermelon donated by Fareway will also be available while the supply lasts.
Sponsors of Hot August Night are McAtee Tire & Service Center, Ben Franklin/Radio Shack, McLaughlin International, Home State Bank, Wild Rose Entertainment, Peoples Trust & Savings Bank, Unger Insurance, Doc’s Stadium Bar & Grill, Oly’s Corner, Kim Rueter, Edward J. Jones, Metro Club Sports Bar, Rueter’s Red Power, The Printer’s Box, Regency Park Nursing & Rehab, Fareway, and Hy-Vee.
To end the evening, the Sierra Community Theatre will host a free showing of the 1978 movie classic “Grease” at 8:15 pm. Lisa Jaskey, of Lisa Neilsen CPA, PC, is sponsoring the movie as a way to “wind down a great summer in Greene County.”
