Grand Junction residents and friends celebrated Lincoln Highway Day last Saturday, with a 5K Glo-Run/Walk capping off the day with more than 200 participants. The event raised $5,100 for the Community Center building fund.
The day included a one act play by the Off the Track Players, a parade, carnival games, an East Greene jersey auction, a performance by the Town & Country Band, and more.
The city park was the scene for a car show. Pictured are a 1939 Dodge business coupe owned by Larry Jewett of Grand Junction (left) and a 1934 Ford coupe owned by Jim and Judy Fields of Paton. They were just two of 20 or so cars displayed.
A highlight was a re-dedication of the Lions Club park shelter. The shelter was originally built in 1964. It was refurbished and dedicated to the late Wayne Emmett, who had been very active in the Grand Junction Lions Club for decades.
The Grand Junction Horizons group funded the new roof and grills were donated by Neese Inc and Rueter’s Red Power.
Pictured at the dedication are (from left) Shirley Herrick, Susan Emmettt, Grand Junction mayor Gerald Herrick, and Lions Club past president and past district governor Ray Halterman.
