Thursday, July 31: At 11:30 am a deputy investigated a burglary report in the 1200 block of E Ave north of Scranton. At 3:40 pm the animal control officer collected a loose small black dog in Churdan and took the dog to PAWS. At 4:05 pm a deputy started an investigation into a computer fraud case. At 8:21 pm a deputy investigated a theft complaint in the 900 block of East Main St in Grand Junction. At 8:44 pm the animal control officer investigated a complaint of a neglected dog in the 600 block of School St in Churdan.
Wednesday, July 30: At 1:04 am a deputy investigated an alarm at Casey’s in Scranton. It was found that someone had tried to pry the rear door open but did not gain access to the building. At 8:49 am a deputy investigated a report of illegal dumping at the intersection of 140th St and A Ave in Cedar Township. The case is under investigation. At 10:02 am a deputy investigated a traffic accident at the intersection of 310th Street and B Ave in Willow Township. Irene Scott of Carroll was traveling south on B Ave and was struck by Shawn Degood of Coralville, who was eastbound on 310th St. Both subjects were transported to St Anthony Hospital in Carroll to be evaluated. Damage to Scott’s 2010 Ford Fusion and to Degood’s 2006 Ford Escape was estimated to exceed value. Greene County EMS and the Scranton fire department also responded to the scene. At 11 am a deputy investigated a fraud case where a brother used the complainant’s information for a citation that he was issued. The case is under investigation. At 9:24 pm a deputy investigated a traffic accident on County Road E-53 about one-half mile west of Highway 144 west of Grand Junction. Alan Ferguson of Jefferson was driving a 1988 Chevy truck and struck a cow in the roadway. The truck was a total loss and the cow was removed from the roadway.
Tuesday, July 29: At 10:01 am a deputy investigated a criminal mischief report to the Methodist Church in Grand Junction. The case is still under investigation.

Monday, July 28: At 5:20 pm a deputy was dispatched to Grand Junction to investigate criminal mischief to one of the wooden railroad cars on Main Street near the Peoples Bank. At 7:53 pm an Ogden police officer transported a wanted male subject to the Casey’s General Store in Grand Junction to meet a Greene County deputy who then arrested the male on a book and release warrant and transported him to the Greene County Law Enforcement Center. At 9:33 pm a deputy spoke with a female in the 600 block of 3rd Street in Rippey about a male trespassing on the property.
Sunday, July 27: At 11:47 am the chief deputy sheriff and his K 9 Leo assisted the Guthrie County sheriff’s office with tracking an unknown burglary suspect in the 3300 block of 110th Street. The suspect was not located at that time. At 2:24 pm a deputy investigated criminal mischief to a window in the 100 block of East Main Street in Grand Junction.
Saturday, July 26: At 10:10 am, a deputy spoke with a rural resident in the 1500 block of K Ave in Kendrick Township about the possible theft or misplacement of a small caliber handgun. At 5:46 pm, a deputy was dispatched to a reported two vehicle accident at the intersection of County Road E-53 (240th Street) and County Road P-14 (J Ave) in Jackson Township. Trista Jo Bainter, 20, or rural Jefferson was westbound on E-53. Molly Jo Hoskins, 17, of rural Jefferson was traveling on P-14. She stopped and then entered the intersection, striking Bainter’s vehicle. Hoskins was transported to Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Emergency Medical Services for minor injuries. She was cited for failure to obey a stop sign. Bainter’s 2001 Chevrolet K2500 pickup truck and Hoskin’s 1988 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck were both estimated to be total losses. At 8:01 pm a deputy investigated a reported violation of a no contact order in the 300 block of 340th Street in Willow Township. At 9:21 pm a deputy assisted with traffic control during the 5 K Glow Run in Grand Junction.
Friday, July 25: At 6:11 am a deputy investigated a harassment concern in the 800 block of Percival Street in Grand Junction. At 8:37 am a deputy was dispatched to a reported two vehicle accident on U Ave and 290th Street in Washington Township. Michael Wayne Hegstrom, 60, of Jefferson attempted to negotiate the intersection at 290th St when he struck a pickup truck driven by Lyle Robert Heater, 79, of rural Rippey. There were no injuries and no citation was issued. Damage to Hegstrom’s 2001 Toyota Corolla was estimated at $2,000. Damage to Heater’s 1999 Dodge Ram pickup was minimal. At 11:54 am a deputy was dispatched to a domestic call in the 300 block of 13th Street in Grand Junction. After an investigation by the deputy, David Michael Cannon, 35, of Grand Junction was arrested for disorderly conduct*. At 10:02 pm, both Greene and Carroll County deputies responded to the report of cattle on the roadway at Highway 30 and A Ave. The owner of the cattle was notified and assisted the deputies with placing the cattle back into the pasture.
Thursday, July 24: At 3:36 pm a deputy was dispatched to a reported one vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 30 just east of County Road P-33 (S Ave) west of Grand Junction. Alexandria Marie Roth, 19, of Wall Lake was eastbound on Highway 30 when she lost the left front tire from her vehicle, causing the car to go into the ditch. Roth was not injured but her 2002 Chevrolet Impala sustained an estimated $2000 in damages. At 6:43 pm the animal control officer and a deputy issued citations to a dog owner in the 2400 block of 337th Street in Washington Township for allowing his dogs to run at large.
Wednesday, July 23: At 7:43 am a deputy was dispatched to a reported single vehicle accident on County Road P-46 (W Ave) just south of Highway 30 east of Grand Junction. Elizabeth Ann Bane, 19, of Perry was northbound on P-46 when she lost control of her vehicle and entered the west ditch. Bane was transported to the Dallas County Hospital by her father after sustaining an injury to her left arm. Bane will be cited for failure to maintain control. Bane was wearing her seat belt and the air bags did deploy. Damage to her 1996 Oldsmobile Aurora was not listed. At 1:05 pm a deputy investigated criminal mischief to several mail boxes in the 700 block of East Hager Street in Grand Junction. At 1:50 pm a deputy was asked to eradicate several wild marijuana plants that were found in Churdan. At 4:26 pm two deputies, an Iowa State trooper, the Jefferson fire department and personnel from the Greene County Emergency Medical Services all responded to a two vehicle accident east of Jefferson on Highway 30 at the bridge repair stoplight. A semi-tractor trailer being driven by Gabriel Joseph Pape, 31, of Moorhead failed to stop at the construction site and struck the rear of a 1997 S 10 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Rosemary Trucks, 74, of Jefferson. Trucks was transported to the Greene County Medical Center for minor head injuries. A total damage estimate to the vehicles is not available at the time.
Tuesday, July 22: At 3:57 pm a deputy checked the report of a bicyclist being forced off the roadway by a semi-tractor trailer on Highway 4 north of Jefferson. The trucking company will be advised of the incident.
Monday, July 21: At 11:03 am, a deputy investigated a traffic accident at 200th Street and County Road P-33 (S Ave) in Hardin Township. Neha Bawane of Bettendorf was traveling on P-33 and went to turn onto 200th Street and lost control of the vehicle and went into the ditch. Neha was driving a Hertz rental car. The estimated damage to the vehicle was about $5,500. At 11:38 am a deputy investigated a traffic accident at the intersection of W. State and N. Elm Street in Jefferson. Rebecca Schroeder of Jefferson was driving a 2005 Cadillac on State Street and failed to stop at the stop sign and struck a northbound Jefferson police department 2014 Ford Explorer in the rear passenger door. Schroeder was issued a citation for failure to obey a stop sign. At 3:16 pm a deputy investigated a fraud report in the 500 block of East Hager Street in Grand Junction. The case is under investigation. At 10:16 pm a deputy assisted Carroll County with trying to locate a Jefferson resident who had struck a utility pole with his vehicle in rural Carroll County and then fled on foot. The subject was later arrested in Carroll County. At 11:34 pm a deputy assisted a motorist who had locked there keys in the car with it running and an animal inside the car. The car was unlocked.

At 6:47 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 500 block of South 12th Street in Grand Junction. At 8:28 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 200 block of East Main Street in Grand Junction.
Friday, July 18: At 3:59 pm a deputy investigated a criminal mischief complaint to the park in Dana. The case is under investigation. At 6:19 pm a deputy investigated an accident near Casey’s in Grand Junction. A semi-tractor and trailer had backed into a fence. There was no damage to either the fence or the semi. At 11:48 pm a deputy investigated a underage drinking party at 2472 180th Street, Dana. Clay Paulson allegedly supplied alcohol to the following persons that were under the age of 21, ranging in age from 14 to 19: Ethan M. Gill, Foster C. Harrison, Sydney Renee Hultgren, Keaton R. Barnes, Kaitlin A. Meeks, Ashley N. Rieks, Benjamin Pepper, Chance Morrison, Tyler Burns, Jared Resh, Bailey Turner, Sydney Hultgren, Ethan Gill, Foster Harrison, Ashley Rieks, Kaitlin Meeks, Keaton Barnes, Shawn Heaning, and Troy Shaw. Robert Hamilton and Audra Elizabeth Burt were transported to the Boone County Hospital by Grand Junction Rescue. The two have warrants for possession of alcohol under age.* Tyler Austin Erickson* gave his information and then ran off; there is an arrest warrant for him on a charge of possession of alcohol under age.* Colbie James Hefler gave the wrong name and then later ran off; there is an arrest warrant charging him with possession of alcohol underage, interference with official acts, and providing false information.* Clay Paulson who ran has arrest warrants for possession of alcohol underage and providing alcohol to a minors.* A deputy is still investigating the party and more charges may be coming for individuals that fled the party.
Thursday, July 17: At 9:10 am a deputy was dispatched to the 600 block of South 11th Street in Grand Junction to investigate the theft of a bicycle. At 12 pm a deputy investigated the theft of an ATV 4-wheel Polaris Sportsman 700 taken from a residence in Dana. At 4:15 pm a deputy spoke with a Cooper resident about her continuing to receive harassing text messages from her former boyfriend. The deputy will be contacting the male subject about his involvement in this case. 9:23 pm, At 9:23 pm a deputy planned to assist the Department of Human Services with a sexual assault investigation in Scranton.
Wednesday, July 16: At 12:02 am a deputy, the Jefferson fire department and personnel from the Greene County Emergency Medical Services all responded to a reported structure fire in the 1100 block of County Road P-14 (J Ave) in Bristol Township. A steel frame shed owned by Lynn Hardin of 1119 J Ave was fully engulfed in flames when the deputy arrived on scene. According to Hardin, the 36X38 foot steel building housed several snowmobiles and numerous tools. A damage estimate will be determined after an inventory of the structure. Hardin reported that he was burning a wood pile earlier in the day, but was unsure if that was the cause of the building fire.

Monday, July 14: At 6:49 am four members of the Greene County sheriff’s office, including the K-9 unit, a Boone County deputy, the Grand Junction fire and rescue and four Iowa State Patrol troopers, which included the State Patrol plane, all responded to the 1000 block of East Main Street in Grand Junction for a reported 24 year old male who was distraught and attempting to harm himself with a knife. Family members at the residence stated that the male walked away from the residence bleeding after cutting himself several times. The K-9 unit and several responders followed a blood trail for several blocks and eventually found the knife in question but did not locate the male subject. A door to door search and an air search of the nearby corn fields ensued, but were unsuccessful for the first two hours. It was then reported that the subject was spotted in Rippey. Most units involved in the search went to Rippey and subsequently found the distraught male. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Greene County Medical Center for evaluation and medical attention for several small cuts upon his hand and arm. At 10:42 am a deputy was dispatched to the 800 block of 310th Street in Greenbrier Township to investigate the theft of personal property. At 11:48 am, two deputies were dispatched to the 1100 block of 170th Street in Bristol Township for a reported burglary and theft of household fixtures and a cast iron wood burning stove. At 5:50 pm a deputy investigated the reported theft of a 4-wheel ATV from a rural residence in the 1200 block of 130th Street in Highland Township. At 10:17 pm a deputy, the sheriff and a Farnhamville police officer all responded to a rural residence in the 700 block of Q Ave in Hardin Township for the report of an unknown person walking around the property and may have entered the house. The house and all of the out buildings were searched and everything was found to be secure.
Sunday, July 13: At 10:42 am a deputy investigated the theft of electrical power by a tenant from a rental property owner in the 800 block of Percival Street in Grand Junction. At 12:38 pm, two deputies responded to a reported single engine plane that had to make an emergency landing in a bean field north of County Road E-53 Street at the Jefferson Municipal Airport east of Jefferson. A home built experimental plane that is registered with the Federal Aviation Administration and was being flown by Dean Charles Zenor, 55, of Lake City, was taking off from the Jefferson Municipal Airport when due to atmospheric conditions he was unable to achieve the proper lift to keep the plane in the air. Dean Zenor and a passenger in the plane, Robert Dean Owens of Jefferson, were not injured and walked away from the plane.
Saturday, July 12: At 12:43 am a deputy was dispatched to County Road P-33 (S Ave) near 210th Street for the report of cattle on the roadway. Upon the deputy’s arrival it was determined that a calf had been struck and killed by an unknown vehicle. The owner was advised and the cattle were put back into the pasture. At 3:41 pm, a deputy while on routine patrol in Scranton was advised by the owner of a vehicle in the 700 block of State Street that his Chevrolet Tahoe was struck and received damage to the front passenger side quarter panel. An accident report was provided for insurance purposes.
Friday, July 11: At 6:05 am, a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 144 (U Ave), just south of 240th Street south of Grand Junction. Mark Samuel Kendall, 17, of Rippey was northbound when a deer ran onto the road and he struck it. Kendall was not injured. Damage to his 1998 Pontiac Bonneville was estimated at $2,500. At 10:26 am a deputy was dispatched to a reported motorcycle-pickup accident on Highway 30 at Pioneer Ave east of Jefferson. Lori Lynn Onken, 52, of Carroll was eastbound turning left onto Pioneer. Randy Wayne Perkins, 49, of Luverne, MN, was following Onken on a motorcycle. He attempted to pass her as she turned; he struck the driver’s side door of her vehicle. Neither driver, nor Klara Perkins, a passenger on the motorcycle, was injured. Damage estimates for Onken’s 2014 Ford F-150 pickup truck or Perkin’s motorcycle were not provided. Randy Perkins was cited for unsafe passing. At 11:14 am a deputy investigated a burglary and theft of an estimated $50 in cash from the concession stand at the beach area of Spring Lake. At 11:43 am a deputy helped with traffic control at the bridge construction site east of Jefferson on Highway 30 when a semi-tractor trailer driver who was attempting to proceed west through the bridge decided that his load may be too wide to attempt the crossing. The deputy held the westbound traffic while the semi backed from the bridge approach.
Thursday, July 10: At 8:09 am a deputy and the sheriff, along with personnel from the Greene County Emergency Medical Services, the Scranton fire department and a Greene County secondary road employee all responded to an accident involving a bicycle being struck by a car. Alicia Leanne Paup, 25, of Jefferson was westbound on 230th St just past F Ave east of Scranton (a gravel road) when she struck Scott Andrew Carroll, 51, of Jefferson. Carroll was bicycling westbound. Carroll was able to call 9-1-1 from his cell phone and was soon assisted by a secondary roads employee. Carroll was transported to Greene County Medical Center and quickly transported by helicopter to a Des Moines hospital. He was reported to be in stable condition Thursday afternoon. Paup was not injured and a damage estimate for her 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix was not given. She was cited for steering too close to a bicyclist and failure to maintain control. The accident is still under investigation by the sheriff’s office. At 1:09 pm a deputy responded to a reported car-deer accident just east of the Raccoon River Bridge on 305th Street in Franklin Township. The deer was injured and was put down by the deputy. There was only minor damage to the car being driven by Ronda Rae Diaz, 51, of Rippey. Diaz did not need an accident report and did not sustain any personal injuries. At 3:07 pm a deputy and the chief deputy sheriff, along with a unit from the Jefferson fire department all responded to a reported accident east of Jefferson on Highway 30. Thomas Dean Luttrell, 58, of Boise, ID, who was driving a semi-tractor trailer rig, failed to slow for the bridge repair east of Jefferson and struck a Ford F-150 pickup being driven by Rhonda Elaine Hartstack, 63, of Stanton. Lutrell, Hartstack, and her passenger Gary Lee Hartstack were not injured. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. It was reported that both vehicles were determined to be a total loss. The accident is still under investigation with charges pending. At 7:03 pm a deputy was advised by a rural resident in the 1800 block of 283rd Street in Franklin Township that off road golf carts and 4-wheel ATVs are being ridden on the gravel roadway. The deputy advised the caller that more patrol will be given to that particular area. At 11:50 pm a deputy was placed on standby for the Carroll County sheriff’s office after an altercation involving a reported weapon was brandished at a residence in Lanesboro, Iowa, after a domestic altercation.
Wednesday, July 9: At 11:12 am, the animal control officer was asked to remove a cat from a residence in the 600 block of Grant Street in Scranton. The cat was taken to the animal shelter in Jefferson. At 1:05 pm, six members of the Greene County sheriff’s office executed a search warrant on a residence in the 300 block of Hendricks Street in Rippey. At 7:29 pm, a deputy was asked by a female caller who was several hours away from home to check a residence in the 2100 block of 320th Street in Washington Township. At that time the deputy did check the residence and later determined after the owners returned home that the house was entered by removing a window. The burglary is under investigation by the sheriff’s office. At 10:30 pm a deputy while on routine patrol found and placed several head of cattle back into a pasture in the 500 block of County Road N-65 (D Ave) in Cedar Township.
Tuesday, July 8: At 8:06 pm two deputies were dispatched to a reported accident involving a car and a motorcycle at the intersection of Grand and Madison Streets in Scranton. Motorist Tracy William McDonald, 38, of Jefferson was struck from behind by motorcyclist Donald Duane Daniel, 42, of Scranton. An altercation ensued between the two drivers before the deputies’ arrival, but a responding Department of Transportation enforcement officer working in the area responded first to the scene and separated the two. Greene County EMS and the Scranton fire department also responded to the scene. Daniel was transported to Greene County Medical Center for a possible injury. He was cited for failure to stop in a safe and assured distance. Daniel and McDonald will both be charged with disorderly conduct. Damage to McDonald’s 2007 Chrysler 300M and to Daniel’s 2005 Yamaha motorcycle was minor. The accident and the altercation are still under investigation by the sheriff’s office. At 9:56 pm a deputy was advised of a possible theft of personal property from a rural residence in the 1500 block of E Avenue in Kendrick Township. The deputy will be questioning several individuals as to the disappearance of the property.
Monday, July 7: At 9:28 pm a deputy was dispatched to the intersection of 200th Street and County Road E-33 in Kendrick Township for a reported car-deer accident. Donna Rae Adamson, 65, of Dana was northbound when she struck the deer in the intersection. She was not injured, but damage to her 2013 Chevrolet Sonic was estimated at $3,000.

Friday, July 4: At 6:09 pm a deputy checked the report of a resident in the 800 block of Railroad Street in Grand Junction using a BB gun to detour rabbits from eating his garden. The deputy asked the resident to refrain from using the BB gun as a deterrent. At 6:15 pm, a deputy checked the report of an erratic and careless driver racing around Paton at a high rate of speed. The vehicle and the driver was located and advised of the reported concern. Charges are pending further investigation by the deputy.
Thursday, July 3: At 7:22 am a deputy investigated the theft of prescription medication from a residence in the 800 block of Lincoln Street in Scranton. At 1:26 pm a deputy while on routine patrol initiated a traffic stop on an erratic and careless driver on Highway 30 at Pioneer Ave east of Jefferson and subsequently arrested Alan Dale Ensley, 55,of Ankeny for operating while intoxicated (OWI)-first offense(serious misdemeanor), possession of a controlled substance- methamphetamine-second offense (aggravated misdemeanor), and possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while license suspended and driving on the wrong side of a two way highway, all simple misdemeanors.* At 4:18 pm a deputy was dispatched to a barking dog complaint in the 400 block of North 16th Street in Grand Junction. The deputy advised the dog owner of the barking nuisance ordinance and having her dog registered with city hall by next week. At 9:49 pm, a deputy was dispatched to the 800 block of Percival Street in Grand Junction for a reported attempted burglary to a house trailer on lot # 8. The attempted forced entry is still being investigated by the deputy.
Wednesday, July 2: At 9:48 am a deputy was dispatched to the 400 block of East Main Street in Grand Junction to investigate the theft of a license plate from a parked vehicle. At 9:03 pm, a deputy was dispatched to the 1500 block of County Road E-53 east of Jefferson for a vehicle that had driven off the roadway and through the front yard at the residence. There were no injuries or property damage and a state report was not needed.
Tuesday, July 1: At 12:01 am a deputy was dispatched to the 800 block of Percival Street in Grand Junction to investigate the reported theft of personal property. At 3:49 pm a deputy was advised by a rural resident in the 2400 block of H Ave in Greenbrier Township that she had received a phone call from an unknown male caller wanting her to give credit card information or purchase a green dot card and reveal the card information to him and in return receive some type of government grant funds. She did not comply with the caller. At 5:52 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 200 block of Anyer Street in Dana to help mediate a verbal dispute between neighbors. Charges are pending further investigation. At 7:43 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 300 block of Main Street in Grand Junction to investigate the reported theft of personal property from the residence.
