Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Jefferson police department:
Thursday, July 31: At 10:24 am a complainant reported a theft at a residence in the 600 block of S. Cedar St. At 2:02 pm an officer arrested Michael Lynn Heard Sr of Jefferson for an outstanding warrant for theft-fifth degree aiding and abetting*. The warrant was issued as a result of the investigation of a theft from Dollar General on July 29. At 3 pm an officer investigated a case of shoplifting at The Printer’s Box. Dalton Peterson was charged with theft-fifth degree and was released to his father*. At 5:26 pm an officer assisted the Ames police department with a possible forgery. As a result of an investigation of shoplifting at Dollar General on July 29, an arrest warrant has been issued for Frederick Leon Harris of Des Moines, for theft-fifth degree*.
Wednesday, July 30: At 9:25 am Thomas Hammel reported at the LEC hit and run damage his 2012 Ford F250 pickup truck. The vehicle had been parked in the 100 Block of N. Chestnut St the previous evening. Hammel later discovered damage to the vehicle’s right rear quarter panel. The officer estimated the damages at $1,300. At 10:38 am a complainant reported the theft of items from a garage in the 100 block of E. Adams St. The officer is investigating. At 4:14 pm a complainant reported suspected criminal mischief to a lawn in the 100 block of Lincoln Place. At 4:51 pm officers assisted the Jefferson park and recreation department and Greene County EMS with a simulated drowning drill at the swimming pool.
Tuesday, July 29: At 9:24 am an officer assisted a resident with a harassment situation. At 12:29 pm a resident reported a possible identity theft. At 4:52 pm a complainant reported possible vandalism at Paul Nally Park at St Joseph Parish Center. The officer spoke to several individuals in the area and cautioned them on using the equipment appropriately. At 9:20 pm staff at Dollar General requested an officer for a suspected shoplifting incident. The officer began an investigation.

Saturday, July 26: While on patrol an officer located a female having balance issues walking near South St and Pinet St. The officer made contact with the female. Jessica Lynn Fox, 34 of Jefferson was arrested and charged with public consumption and public intoxication – first offense*. At 3:08 pm officers arrested Kathleen Ann Specht, 57 of Jefferson, on an outstanding Greene County arrest warrant for a probation violation*.

Thursday, July 24: At 3:29 pm Marianne Carlson reported a hit and run accident in the parking lot at Greene County Medical Center. Carlson’s 1991 Chevrolet Caprice was struck by a maroon Toyota Highlander which had left the scene without reporting the incident. At 6:46 pm an officer investigated a traffic collision in the 300 block of N. Elm St. Billy Jack of Otho was southbound on Elm Street in the inside lane. Carly Hennen of Panora exited the Kum and Go parking lot in and turned southbound. Hennen struck the left side of Jack’s vehicle. Hennen was cited for failure to yield upon entering a highway. Damage to her 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix was estimated at $800. Damage to Jack’s 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck was estimated at $1,000. At 9:51 pm Rebecca Davis reported she had gone to a residence at 1107 N. Maple Street and had pulled in the driveway behind a white pickup owned by Climate Solutions. Davis reported the driver of the pickup had backed into the front of her vehicle while she had been parked in the driveway. The incident remains under investigation at this time.
Wednesday, July 23: At 1:09 pm an officer investigated a backing collision at 1000 W. Adams Street. Veronica Kenoyer was backing a 1998 Cadillac Catera from a parking stall and struck a parked 2010 Dodge Charger owned by Dennis Matthews. The officer estimated the damage to each vehicle at $500.00. No citation was issued as the incident occurred in a private parking lot. At 5 pm Shawna Nepple reported striking a stop sign in the median at Highway 30 and Highway 4. Nepple had been attempting to turn westbound onto Highway 30 from Highway 4 when a turning semi-tractor startled her, causing her to swerve and run over a stop sign in the median. The sign became lodged under her vehicle. Damage to Nepple’s 2004 Ford Freestar van was estimated at $1,500. The stop sign, which owned by the state of Iowa, sustained $150 in damage.
Tuesday, July 22: At 1:07 pm staff at Shelter Stor All requested an officer pick up an abandoned bicycle at 408 Highway 30 East. At 2:57 pm an officer was asked to watch for a semi-tractor trailer that had almost struck a bicyclist north of Jefferson on Highway 4 near County Road E-26 in Hardin Township. The officer stopped the truck at W. Madison and S. Elm and spoke to the driver until a deputy sheriff arrived as the incident had occurred in the county.
Monday, July 21: At 11:38 am an officer was involved in a traffic accident at W. State and N. Elm Streets. The Greene County sheriff’s office handled the investigation into the collision. At 11:52 am an officer investigated a traffic collision in the 100 block of Ram Drive. Dana Harrison attempted to back out of the parking area in front of Regency Park Nursing and Rehab but she collided with a westbound vehicle driven by Doris Kennedy. Harrison was cited for unsafe backing on a highway. Damage to her 2010 Honda Odyssey was estimated at $1,000. Damage to Kennedy’s 1997 Chrysler Concorde was estimated at $1,500. At 10:26 pm Carroll County law enforcement asked that an officer watch for a local resident who was reported to have been involved in an accident in rural Carroll County. The subject was later located in Carroll County and taken into custody.
Sunday, July 20: At 8:52 pm a landlord reported the theft of a refrigerator by a tenant in the 500 block of S. Olive Street. At 9:42 pm an officer was requested at a residence in the 400 block of W. Head St for a domestic disturbance involving a teenage female.

Friday, July 18: At 11:44 am a complainant reported a family member had entered her residence at 102 S. Grimmell Road without permission and had taken some items. At 9:45 pm a complainant reported harassment at a residence in the 1100 block of W. Lincoln Way.
Thursday, July 17: At 12:23 pm an officer responded to a parking complaint in the 300 block of S. Wilson. The investigation resulted in the arrest of Michael Lynn Heard Jr of Jefferson for violation of protective order and Crystal Lynn Heard of Jefferson for violation of protective order- aiding and abetting.* At 7:24 pm a complainant reported a possible burglary at a residence in the 600 block of W. Washington St.
Wednesday, July 16: While on patrol, an officer was flagged down in the 500 block of E. Lincoln Way by a female who advised the officer that a male was riding a smaller motorcycle on the bike trail. The female was concerned for the safety of bicyclists on the trail. The female pointed the male out to the officer. Upon making contact with the male, he refused to cooperate with the officer. Terrance William Becker, 38, of Jefferson, was arrested for interference with official acts– simple misdemeanor*.
Tuesday, July 15: At 7:32 am staff at Casey’s (N. Elm) reported a gas drive off in the amount of $20.01.
Monday, July 14: At 6:15 am a resident reported horses loose on Mulberry Street south of the Greene County Fairgrounds. The animals were later captured on 110th Street in Guthrie County.

Saturday, July 12: At 1:02 pm a complainant reported the passenger door of his pickup truck had been damaged while parked at Kum and Go.
Friday, July 11: At 3:12 pm a traffic stop in the 700 block of E. Lincoln Way resulted in the arrest of Robert Emmett Tracy, III, 27, of Jefferson, for driving while barred and failure to prove security against liability*.
Thursday, July 10: At 3:07 pm a JPD officer assisted the Greene County sheriff’s office by providing traffic control at a vehicle accident on Highway 30 two miles east of Jefferson.
Wednesday, July 9: At 1:22 am a resident in the 300 block of E. Park Street reported a male pounding on his door. The officer made contact with the subject. He reported his bike had been stolen and he was out looking for it. At 9:04 am a complainant reported the theft of a bicycle from a residence in the 600 block of S. Cedar Street. At 9:35 am an officer investigated a two vehicle collision at the Greene County Fairgrounds. Rebecca Killion was driving a 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck pulling a trailer southbound. As she negotiated a turn she struck a parked pickup and trailer owned by Matthew Blair. Damage to Blair’s 2002 Dodge pickup truck was to the left front bumper, fender and tire and was estimated at $1,200. Killion was cited for operation without registration. Damage to the trailer she was pulling was estimated at $50. At 7:23 pm a complainant reported harassment by a landlord at a residence in the 500 block of S. Olive St. At 8:10 pm a complainant reported harassment at a residence in the 400 block of E. Harrison St.
Tuesday, July 8: At 7:26 pm a member of PAWS reported trespass where someone had entered the city’s animal shelter without permission and removed a cat that had been picked up and placed there. At 7:32 pm staff at Oly’s Corner reported the theft of fuel in the amount of $7.97.
Monday, July 7: At 10:25 am staff at St. Joseph Catholic Church reported criminal mischief to outlets on the shelter at the church-owned Paul Nally Park in the 500 block of N. Olive Street. Pursuant to a complaint of a 16-year-old female being assaulted on July 4 at a residence in the 1000 block of W. Wall Street, a warrant has been issued charging Jared Dean Dennhardt, 25, of Jefferson, with assault – simple.* After the completion of an investigation initiated on June 23, a warrant has been issued charging Kaleigh Cristin Gross, 18, of Jefferson, with possession of drug paraphernalia.* Pursuant to receiving laboratory results from arrests on May 17 and May 18, warrants have been issued charging Michael David Teeples, 21, of Jefferson with two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of possession of marijuana.*
Sunday, July 6: At 2:44 am an officer investigated a two car collision in the 300 block of E. Lincoln Way. Carleigh Paup was eastbound on Lincoln Way. David Fountain left the parking lot at the Casey’s store. As he turned eastbound his vehicle struck the left rear of Paup’s vehicle. Fountain was cited for failure to yield upon a left turn. Damage to his 2002 Buick LeSabre was estimated at $800. Damage to Paup’s 2013 Chrysler 300S was estimated at $1,500. At 3:01 pm staff at Greene County Medical Center reported a dog bite that occurred at 203 S. Chestnut St. The dog was quarantined at the Jefferson Veterinary Clinic as required.
Saturday, July 5: At 11:10 am a complainant reported a theft at a residence in the 200 block of N. Oak St. At 1:14 pm a complainant reported harassment and trespass at a residence in the 400 block of W. State St.
Friday, July 4: At 2:14 pm an officer was advised of a domestic abuse assault that had occurred at a residence in the 1000 block of W. Wall Street. Charges are pending at this time. At 8:14 pm a traffic stop at Cedar and Reed Streets resulted in an officer arresting Steven Busch, 58, of Fort Dodge, for operating while intoxicated (OWI)-third offense, improper brake light, failure to wear safety belt, failure to prove security against liability, open container of alcohol in a vehicle, and driving while suspended.*
Thursday, July 3: At 12:35 am a complainant reported being approached by a male at 303 N. Elm Street Kum and Go who demanded he give him whatever he had on his person. The complainant reported the male reached for him so he punched him. The complainant reported the male got back into his vehicle and left the area. The incident remains under investigation at this time. At 11:49 pm a complainant requested an officer at 102 S. Grimmell Road for harassment.
Wednesday, July 2: At 7:47 am a complainant requested an officer at a residence in the 1100 block of N. Cedar Street for harassment. A female from Grand Junction was told not to have any further contact with the complainant or other family members or charges would be considered.
Tuesday, July 1: At 10 am a complainant reported harassment by a known male in the 700 block of N. Cedar Street. At 16:30 pm a complainant requested an officer at a residence in the 1100 block of N. Cedar Street to report ongoing unwanted contact from another female through Facebook.
