DAISY Award nominations of Greene County Medical Center nurses are being accepted through Friday, Aug. 1. The award recognizes nurses who give exceptional patient care. Nomination forms are available at the medical center’s main desk and outpatient reception desk.
An Aug. 21 ceremony will be the first for Greene County Medical Center nurses. At the ceremony all those nominated will be recognized and the honoree will receive a certificate commending him or her for being an “Extraordinary Nurse” as well as a sculpture called “A Healer’s Touch,” hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa.
Chief nursing executive Katie Heldt said, “We are proud to be among the hospitals participating in the DAISY Award program. Nurses are heroes every day. Given the rapidly changing health care environment and the important role our nurses play in patient care coordination, the DAISY Foundation will assist us in recognizing nurses for the valuable work they perform every day.”
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Allen, CA, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Barnes died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Barnes and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
The DAISY Award special ceremony on Thursday, Aug. 21, will be held at 10 am in the medical center cafeteria. The event is open to the public.
